  Friends and classmates of a 16-year-old girl who police say was murdered by her devout Muslim father in a Toronto suburb told local media Tuesday she was killed for not wearing a hijab.

  Police said in a statement they received an emergency call at 7:55 am local time Monday from "a man who indicated that he had just killed his daughter."

  The victim, Aqsa Parvez, was "rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but tragically passed away late last night."

  Her father, Muhammad Parvez, 57, was arrested at the scene and will be formally charged with murder when he appears in court Wednesday, said police.

  The girl's friends, meanwhile, told local media she was having trouble at home because she did not conform to the family's religious beliefs and refused to wear a traditional Islamic head scarf, or hijab.

  "She wanted to go different ways than her family wanted to go, and she wanted to make her own path, but he (her father) wouldn't let her," one of her classmates told public broadcaster CBC.

  "She loved clothes," another of her friends, Dominiquia Holmes-Thompson, told the daily Toronto Star. "She just wanted to show her beauty ... She just wanted to dress like us, just like a normal person."

  According to her friends, Aqsa had worn the hijab at school last year, but rebelled in recent months.

  They said she would leave home wearing a hijab and loose-fitting clothes, but would take off her head scarf and change into tighter garments at school, then change back before going home at the end of the day.

  The victim's 26 year-old brother was also charged with obstructing police in the investigation.

  This Canadian case is very tragic. Where was the mother in all this? I only see reference to the murdering father and the conspiratorial older brother.

  Someday there will be an ex-Islam discussion board similar to this one. (Maybe there already is?)

  (At least JW's don't murder their non-believing children. Well, in most cases they don't. They only shun them for decades, trying to emotionally starve them.)

  Bloody extremists. They make a mockery of their own religion, way more then JW makes a mockery of mine.

  Though I have done my research and know that not all Muslims are like this and have been intrested by Islamic Science and how it formed a bases for most modern science today. Just to avoid a anti Islam debate.

  So... This killing and the bombing of a UN building in Algeria- just another normal day in a world where Islam is supposed to be respected so that the civilized Muslims can get comfort believing Muhammad flew about on a winged horse and Adam stood on one foot for 1000 years, allowing Muslims who actually follow their book to kill unbelievers.

  I'm sure the moderates will be marching the streets any moment now to protest at how the extremists are hijacking their 'religion of peace'...

  I interact with a lot of Muslim women where I work, and most of them feel that they have a free choice to wear the hijab.

  I suppose this girl had a free choice too, and when she exercised her right to choose freely, she freely chose the consequences that went along with that choice. Not too unlike the JWs who have "free choice" to refuse blood transfusions in a life threatening situation.

  Religion, truly, is a snare and a racket. It poisons everything.

  Well, Gopher, murder is really unnecessary and so terribly messy. They just behave as though you no longer exist or as though you are as good as dead anyway. Except when they need financial assistance from you. But until then, the phone never rings, letters and cards and emails go unanswered, and they hang up when you phone them.

  It's almost like what they do to people in Orwell's 1984: All evidence of your existence is destroyed. You are never spoken of again. You unexist.

  Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says there will be no sharia law in his province and that he will move to ban all faith-based arbitrations.

  Seeking to end months of debate, McGuinty said he would not let his province become the first Western government to allow the use of Islamic law to settle family disputes and that the boundaries between church and state would become clearer by banning religious arbitration completely.

  "There will be no Shariah law in Ontario. There will be no religious arbitration in Ontario. There will be one law for all Ontarians," McGuinty told The Canadian Press.
