There was a thread earlier today about Islam where it was mentioned that they made great contributions to science.
Everytime someone speaks ill of our "dear muslim friends" they are immediately jumped on and called prejudiced---at least in some instances.
I agree with the majority, if you want to come to a western country--abide by western law.

I think most Muslims do abide by the laws and don't have a problem with it as the countries that they're coming from usually have much stricter laws. What most people want is for them to conform to our way of life, not our laws. Big difference. This situation is one that is out of the ordinary for the western world. Yes, it happens in Islamic run countries but this girl wouldn't have had the freedom to feel comfortable taking it off in the first place.
I could see the same thing happening in a Christian home. If a child rebelled in the OT, he was to be put to death. If it wasn't illegal in Canada and the US, I could see a fundemental Christian killing their child. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened.

Fundamental religion is dangerous.
But even though this country was supposedly founded on christian faith--it would not be tolerated for a kid to be killed for leaving a religion.
Of course, it's okay to let a child die from lack of blood, or maybe a snake-bite if their faith was weak.

I'm not a very politically correct person and I wish I knew a better way to say this but, you are an extremely pig headed person if that's what you think.
What are you trying to imply here? That this crime was only bad because it was committed in a western country? Would this have been ok if done in a Islamic country?
Are you saying we should turn a blind eye when people commit horrible crimes in the name of religion because most of the time they are really nice and we wouldn't want to offend them god forbid.
Shouldn't we be speaking out against the religion that teaches these crimes are acceptable? Not trying to make stupid statements like, 'well what was done was really bad, but back in the 3rd century they did contribute a lot to science, so I guess it wasn't that bad'. That is just pure non-sence.
How is it that people post here and condemn JW's for being murders because of not accepting blood, but then defend Muslims when they really do murder people? Is it because the acts that are committed by these people are so extreme that it seems hard to comprehend that people could be doing this merely in the name of religion? If so I understand, but the truth is that this religion is new compared to Christianity and in Islamic coutries it is just like in the dark ages, there has been no reform yet in the Islamic world. The people who commit these crimes really believe they are doing gods will.

No, it's just here lately, everytime we discuss something like this--someone chimes in and calls us racist---or some really big word that means we want genocide. I'm not pig-headed, just a little dense.
Of course there is no excuse for this behavior--ANYWHERE.
I was just kinda waiting to see how long it would take for someone to call me a name tonight. Hmmm, about 30 minutes. Use to take a couple of hours. Oh well. This board isn't what it used to be.
