I have good friends that have served in the war. They are far better men than you will ever be. The understand what duty towards your people means. What courage under life or death is.

Sure, I've thought of that. I know there are many that want to be there. It's sad that to have an opportunity they are reduced to putting their life on the line "for their country", a country that will help them only if they do. Otherwise they can stay in the ghetto and die before the age of 25 or spend a lot of their free time in prison.

Gee, I don't know where to start. How about highest standard of living in the world. Longest average life span, greatest amount of personal freedom and a miniscule fraction who renounce their citizenship, not to mention that our poor are fighting obesity, not starvation, just to mention a few.
The indicator of success you suggest is that others want to immigrate to the US. Why do they want to immigrate?

Do you not agree most who 'want to immigrate' feel a bit disadvantaged and want a piece of the pie? Does this make ours the best system? Simply being the object of desire does not make us the best, anymore than being the hottest soccer mom in the neighborhood makes a her the best woman or human. It's flawed reasoning. Perhaps the "critics" are looking at something deeper.

As for Simon and HS disliking the country, maybe you are taking their ideology personally. I'm inclined to think they are pointing out flaws in ideas and policies of a system rather then dissing the pretty soccer mom that everyone wants.
When someone only focuses on your personal flaws and never has anything nice to say about you would you feel that they dislike you? duh. I repeat, whether they like or dislike this country means less than nothing to me. But it is rather obvious.

I'm too tired to be serious. I'm reminded of the statement that America is the only place in the world where 'a poor black child can grow up to become a rich white woman'. But that's irrelevant. I'm sorry. As for America being a land of opportunity, things change. Now, instead of growing up learning the family business or learning a profitable trade from scratch, our land of opportunity is limited to getting a degree, preferably in a prestigious university, so that we have the "opportunity" if getting a fair paying job with a major corporation. But this is not a local problem. The entire western world has become limited to this 'opportunity'You have NO IDEA the story I could tell you! Why do you think I'm so adamant about this?
I'm inclined to believe those of you that rant against the American system are those that have failed to take advantage of it. You've failed in some way and are disappointed to the degree that you want to blame anything and anybody but yourselves for your failures or your lack of achievement.

She is taking advantage of every opportunity our government has to offer and studying to get a degree in Forensic Science. English is her second

How is it a slur? It's common knowledge most of the United States army is disproportionately composed of the poorest, most desperate of those within the country, mostly from the Southeastern regions. Notice the "" around the word scum, meaning it is a phrase not meant to be taken literally
