    Journey On,

If America was a socialist country, I don't think people would be beating the door down to get to the land of opportunity!

Groan....what does this have to do with anything? Have you read nothing? Do you know which countries have a Social Democratic government and which do not? Not everybody wishes to live in the US you know. Do some research please!

If you knew anything about Tony Blair and his policies, you would know that he is a visionary that ended up a nicompoop and in this shares the fate of many politicians. His words mean no more than his words.

Simply put, I agree with Winston Churchill when he said that good government should 'provide the ladder for the people to climb, and a net should the people fall'.

So do I but I hate "the nanny state" too

...and your continuing folly of engaging me in debate without providing any evidence whatsoever for your opinions makes my point. Either step up and join in this debate with views that actually make sense, or go away.
In short, put up or shut up and for God's sake stop whining like a little child.

You have provided no evidence. Zip. Zilch. Nada. None. Your mind weakens in your dotage. This is evident in the fluff you try to pass off as substance with high-sounding syntax.

$1.48 billion per day since September 29, 2006!
Concerned? Then tell Congress and the White House!

We have been a Socialist country for many decades, how do we pay our debt?

    Stilla,

So do I but I hate "the nanny state" too

Yes, it falls way short of my ideals as well, though it has also done much in some ways to help society in providing direction for those who need it.

What needs to be understood is that there are no static political ideologies, whatever they may be. They are in constant move like a pendulum adjusting to social evolution. Socialist ideals have changed, are changing and will change. This however, is the same as Capitalist ideologies, democratic values (you have seen just how they can change the past eight years or so) etc. These are forever changing and need to. That which does not bend, breaks.

The Socialist ideals of the 1840's are very different to the Social Democracy that grew from them. The world as envisioned by the Founding Fathers of the US Constitution is very different now. I have no fear of change. I fear the lack of it.

    Cheers - HS

There are two kinds of people in the the US (I assume you meant the US when you said America). Producers and Parasites. A producer is, basically, a tax payer. They might be a plumber or a janitor but they work and provide for themselves and have a portion of their income taken by the government. The government provides basic services for them, law enforcement, schools, infrastructure, a military, etc. but the government also funds bureaucracies to siphon off sustenance which are for the most part staffed by parasites. They also have a generous system of welfare that buys a political base for them. This creates a class of parasites who soon feel entitled to every single thing that the producers enjoy.

In nature there are two kinds of parasites. Those that consume the host and then move on to another and those that live off the host indefinitely, like tapeworms in the gut. The US system has been successful in supporting an unbelievable amount of nourishment for many, many parasites. But the parasites are greedy and always disgruntled. Their political masters beat the drum telling them how badly they are being treated and how much more they should have. All this, of course, with not one ounce of effort required by the welfare parasites who are hooked on the 'entitlement' mentality.

Another catagory is the disgruntled, lazy, loser who prays for total collapse of the entire system because they can't do much worse plus they have a jealous hatred of the producers who they perceive as smug, fat cats. They want to see them destroyed. It's as old as man. Read the history of socialist revolution, like the French or Russians. When the parasites take charge, corruption follows. The sustaining organism withers and dies.

I can't help but laugh at you. I should be pissed at the way you insult and attempt to denigrate others, but, for some reason

I simply find you a big blow hard who is full of himself, erroneously thinking you actually have some kind of knowledge the rest

of us do not. No...I have not lived outside the U.S. I have travelled to Europe and I'm aware everyone does not want to live in

the USA, duh. (Groan --- as you say).

There is no debate with you. I simply made my comments as to why socialism will not work in America. That was the subject

of this thread. I say it won't work because of the American national consciousness....the general overall "personality" of our nation.

We are a capitalist democratic republic...... It's in our blood; it's the way we are and the way our nation has evolved........wrap your pea brain

around that one and come back at me with some snide idiotic bs.
