The Bible is full of misleading role models who were accepted for things modern society doesnt tolerate and so teaching such to current day people disaffects them from things regarded as taboo!

It is an old literary work that should be regarded as the fossil that it is!

If this accuasation against God is true, why did no one complain of his duplicity in the thousands of years since?

Are we sure no one hasn't?

Ok, so the female children were spared because being brought up around the Jews they wouldn't tempt them.

Women are always portrayed as vixens.

We hold to the one woman, one man til death do us part----but all the Kings of Israel had so many women they had one for each day and then some. I'll bet when little kids met each other their first question was "Whose yo daddy?"

    Remember, the Israelites were warriors.

Sometimes history and the bible add up, sometimes it doesn't.

perry: dinah, Since you bring up history....what historical sources do you have to show that Jehovah provided rape victims for his soldiers?

Hey perry, how is this for my "historical source?".....ya gotta get out more my man, and stop reading Biblical commentaries that only want to spout the party line and make God look good!!!........................oompa

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14) 10 "In case you go out to the battle against your enemies and Jehovah your God has given them into your hand and you have carried them away captive; 11 and you have seen among the captives a woman beautiful in form, and you have got attached to her and taken her for your wife, 12 you must then bring her into the midst of your house. She must now shave her head and attend to her nails, 13 and remove the mantle of her captivity from off her and dwell in your house and weep for her father and her mother a whole lunar month; and after that you should have relations with her, and you must take possession of her as your bride, and she must become your wife. 14 And it must occur that if you have found no delight in her,you must then send her away, agreeably to her own soul; but you must by no means sell her for money. You must not deal tyrannically with her after you have humiliated her.

"Are we sure no one hasn't?" I would think that if God had done such a thing, at least one of the millions of Jews that lived and wrote volumes of literature since then would have at least questioned the duplicity of instituting a very astute and detailed Law Covenant, replete with capital punishment, and at the same time the Author of it providing rape victims in violation of the very law He created. Don't you think so? A lot of "higher criticism" is just hard to accept.

Oompa, that was good. Sex for women was always supposed to be humilating, unless you were the HBIC (main wife) then your children were a blessing.

Yup Dinah and Oompa the ancients sure screwed a few women and god was all for it!

Maybe even I would have stayed a JW in those days?

So perry, do your bible commentary know how to put a positive spin on Deut 21: 10-14? I always thought how scared a man would have to be to sleep at night in the same house with a woman you have taken against her will....and oh, btw...you killed her mom, dad, and all brothers! She just might have a little grudge. Try this for a more critical view of the Bible...www.skepticsannotatedbible.com...............oompa

The JW's (and several others) do gymnastics to try to forget that Moses' wife and father are
Midianites when discussing this. They say his wife was a Cushite because of another scripture,
even though it could have been a second wife who was a Cushite (widower or harem-owner).
It must be rough to condemn a people that your in-laws are part of.

(Exodus 2:16-21) Now the priest of Mid´i·an had seven daughters, and as usual they came
and drew water and filled the gutters to water their father’s flock.
