There is a difference though as Vinny has pointed out between real true religion or pretentious contrived bullshit orchestrated from a publishing house

that put damage to so many lives and still does to this day.

Directed by God's holly spirit hardly, directed by themselves most obviously.

The commercialization of the word of god was indeed a commodity, " The Truth "

They use jehovah's name (brave considering they are fighting 1800 years of indoctriniation to try and pretend it doesn't exist )

What makes you think His name is Jehovah? It was first coined by a Catholic monk. The WTBS has even published the fact that Yahaweh or something else is probably closer to the original pronounciation. Placing vowels in any order could be correct. So the possibility exists that instead of calling Him by a very respectful title like God or Lord we could be bastardizing His name and calling Him something that He may not even like. And if He wanted His name pronounced, don't you think He would have made it a little easier to discover the correct vowels in the correct order? No, the WTBS uses "Jehovah" because it sets them apart...like all good cults they have to prove they are inspired of God. They fail miserably on the whole God's name thing.

You talk like the tetragramation is the only name written without vowels! News Flash every name in the old testament was written that way the only reason we are less knowledgeable on jehovah is the jewish superstition that stopped it being pronounced like other names but it certainly didn't stop it be used to start other names or words for example hallelujah means "praise to jehovah" a popular christian song.

So basically is jewish superstition that allowed a pronouciation to be lost to be ascribed to God even though we have the tetragramation put into OT 7000 times by God 's direction, all of which we have to ignore by your account and pretend other completely different words are better than the accurate one?

erm wouldn't it be simpler for God to have made sure the other words were used in the first place?

Bigger News Flash. (see above). I guess God is not powerful enough to override the superstitions of man so as His faithful followers could correctly pronounce His name. Afterall He is powerful enough to choose a large publishing company that dictates 4-door cars and avoidance or demonic Smurfs. I guess that's just part of His mystery, having the Catholics put His word together and allowing them to choose the correct vowels.

    JCANON:

I don't know what to say - I almost never read your threads because what I have read, you sound like a Russell/Freddie Franz clone and I've had my fill of people trying to make prophetic sense out of the Bible. It's never worked for anyone else, and I think the reason is that it's about the same as trying to make prophetic sense out of any other hodge podge mix of history, myth, fantasy, rewritten history, poetry and hallucination. It's a study in frustration, and you are living proof that anybody can come up with anything they want out of it.

Your curt dismissal of the evidence against Noah's Flood indicates it would be another study in frustration to get into a discussion with you.

About the name Jehovah: What kind of god can't even preserve his NAME? One that doesn't exist. We may not know how the tetragrammeton was pronounced, but we can be sure of one thing, the name of the Hebrew god was definitely NOT Jehovah!

    Fantastic e-mail S4!

I'm pasting it into a Word document I'm creating to use with my eldest child and/or my wife at the right time.

FWIW, and for the benefit of any anal-retentive lurker, I think Ray Franz said that the GB requires a 2/3 majority, not a 3/4 majority. Big whoop, I know, but when I was a JW clinging to my desire for all you demonic "free-thinkers" to be wrong, ANY inaccuracy was like a tiny little road block. Stupid, yes, but it's how my JW-loyal brain worked.

    Thanks again S4.

Thank you to misters Catbert and Seeker4. The response to DiMaggio's first letter is pretty sad....

"Hey, maybe we'll get a better answer in the future. In the meantime, shutup and go out in field service."

Reniaa said a little while back

One thing that gets me is why do people look back at history with modern eyes on this site? they never put something in context of the time period it is in, Religions are very much effected by the current prevailing trends of thought

Sure but the WT claims to be higher than that. It is supposed to be "spirit directed". I am not one to point the finger at every old Awake article that discussed the fears of the time. (I can remember them warning about the dangers of microwave ovens) but when it comes to doctrine and bible understanding, then it supposed to come from the Almighty. That is why we can see hypocrisy and cover-ups when they change teachings about "the generation " for example.

The WT proudly claims to stand aloof from "the world" and its thinking so it should not be affected by prevailing trends of thought, but of course it is. It is human, no matter what it claims for itself.

I enjoy your posts, and I respect your decision to return . No one can say that you are uninformed . Best wishes

WOW, what an interesting discussion this has turned into!

Actually, it's more like three different discussions going on simultaneously. It's also the first time I can recall a thread that was hijacked not once, but twice!

Seeker: Great letter, by the way!
