She sure is lucky to have a friend in you, regardless if she knows that yet or not. That letter was really loving and honest. She might eventually feel like crap for letting you go.

I respect your opinion but one thing i would say to support my education statement is look at the ex-elders, ex-Ms and just ex Jw's on here, they all come across as intelligent inc yourself, Even if you can only read Jw books rightly or wrongly the way you are made to study and analyse them constantly will impact on your mind,
lol I can see a "Yeah in a bad way" coming from that but just step back and think of how all the constant studying does make you able to read and write more lucidly think more deeper on subjects etc. thats my personal experience possibly more noticiable for me because i was brought up on a council estate/ghetto and found my speech from reading and the way i looked at things also kept me apart from my peers in many ways after I left Jws

The Society will tell you that the only schooling a Witness needs is whatever is mandated by the law. A JW need only the basics, minimal reading. While this may allow you to be able to read their twisted material, it does NOT allow for you to make any money. This is why the Society's treatment of "higher education" is so wrong. The reason that they give is not because "we can teach you to analyze things." Analyzing things will not put food on the table or clothes on your back. The reason they don't want people getting a higher education, in their own words, is because their minds will be filled with thoughts of men. They will be exposed to philosophies of men. What they really mean to say is that your mind will be exposed to common sense and you will be encouraged to be a skeptic and question everything.

Hello Reniaa (Is that your name? It sounds/ looks very interesting -- although I can only guess how it's pronounced.)

With all due respect to you -- and you come across as a very sincere, good-hearted person -- what does your following comment really mean? How do you explain how you arrived at this conclusion?

They still got jehovah going for them and thats more than the others.

Have you investigated other religions and their understanding and relationship with "God," YHWH, or a divine originator? Although I am totally a-religious (without religion), I've found that others have very deep, sincere beliefs about God/ YHWH/ Allah, etc. One of the most enlightening things to me was how similar religious behavior was around ideology.

Also, somewhere on the net I found this WTS quote: "A religion that teaches lies cannot be true." -- Watchtower (12/1/1991, p. 7) You'll probably want to look that up to confirm it -- I no longer have access to WT literature.

If that quote is true, how do you reconcile the major shifts in WTS teaching over the years? Especially the seemingly ironclad promise about the 1914 Generation. Haven't they proven their own disingenuousness?

    The best to you,

    Ben (to the mountain top)

She'll probably file that letter under "T" in the trashcan. I really hope it makes her start thinking. Good luck!

As I was reading through some of David Reeds stuff today I realized that some apostates I met around 2000-2001 sowed some seeds in my mind that I filed in Trash also... But here I am... so maybe the seeds will work...even years laterA@G

    ... and, oh yeah, Seeker4 --

Excellent letter. Would you mind if I made a copy for myself (I'd always include proper attribution if I shared it with anyone else.)

    Thanks for all your effort.

    Reniaa,

Glad your still here on JWD. I will agree with a few things you wrote. I absolutely agree that being a JW can help to make you a bery good reader, and I personally feel that if you read well, you've got the key to educating yourself.

I credit a lot of progress I made in a lot of areas to having learned to read well. The JWs are one of the few groups that emphasizes reading aloud - at Book Studies, WT, TMS, etc. I know that helped me, and I also know that I worked with my kids on reading, and reading aloud doing the Bible reading or whatever, was a part of our family life, and all my kids are good readers.

I'm not so sure on the analytical thinking skills. There is a dichotomy when you're told to question THOSE things but you have to accept THESE teachings without question or doubt. There are truly some bright JWs - but the ones with real critical thinking skills end up on JWD!

I also have to disagree that the JWs "still have Jehovah." I'm sorry, but I view Jehovah as a mythological creation of an ancient people who they presented as a pathological monster - a killer of anyone who disagreed with him, a jealous egomaniac who demanded constant attention like some sniveling psychopath. If there truly is a god, that god would need none of the things that the Bible demands of Jehovah's worshippers. A true god would never need to be worshipped, as they would be totally complete in themselves. I'm a fahter, but I certainly don't need to have my children constantly thinking of me and telling me how wonderful I am. I just want them to live their lives, find their own way to happiness, and let me be a part of their existence.

Awakened - Glad to have you here. You and I have much in common. I've truly enjoyed your posts. The same with you, BenV and Flipper. I posted that letter on here with the hope that people would use it. We should all stay in touch. We have much to share with each other and the ex-JW community.

I think it was a very good well written concise letter Seeker, you were able to put the point across in not in a condescending way and make it very informative as well .

I particularly like the latter part

Wow, that's a bunch of stuff!! But I strongly believe that one should never be afraid of information and facts. Anything or anyone that makes you afraid of learning about something, reading something or researching something should set off a huge alarm in your head. The only reason to try to limit someone's access to information is a fear of what they'll find out.

People should really investigate on their own what and whom they are getting involved with from all angles, its the smart way and the responsible way.

There are hundreds of religious organizations around the globe that claim to be god's own select and chosen group.

Jws are just one of many to carry that claim, what I think that makes the JWS a bit more dangerous group to be involved in is the fact they are also

a large book publishing company, so it operates itself as a business and a religion all at the same time.

I find this concept particularly annoying when people do not pay attention to this fact.

Anyways I hope your ex-wife can come to rationalize things a little better, bit by bit and a step at a time.........its a valid and honest pursuit
