I have three words:
Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles.
I make my own cornbread, only use jiffy in a pinch, and I prefer my cornbread to be sweet. Oh and I only use yellow cornmeal, that's what I'm used to...my grandma (from Louisiana) only used yellow cornmeal. Now does anyone have a good recipe for hot water cornbread?
The best white cornmeal for cornbread is a brand from Kentucky called "dorsal's" or "dorsel's" I know that Martha White supported the Grand Old Opry and some people think that is the best, including my grandma, but my stepgrandma and my mom both use dorsels. I have tried to win grandma over though.
Talking about cornmeal has put grits into my mind. For some reason that only grits I can find here in Indiana is Quaker's instant or quick grits. I never bought Quaker's in California, only Albers in a box or bag. I can't even find a bag of grits here. Do I have to go to Kentucky?
LOL at Mrs. Jones.
You can find a recipe for hot water cornbread at allrecipes. com.
There used to be a grist mill here where you took your corn and had it ground into meal or grits.
That prepackaged stuff on the grocery shelves is a sorry imitation.

Tell me about it. The best grits I've ever had came from a government program in 5lb bags, I got about 5 or more bags cuz folks didn't want the grits (this was in California). Those grits weren't instant either. Maybe I should find a store in the hood.
Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles.
I have been to Gladys and Rons' Chicken and Waffles in Atlanta. One of the best meals I've ever had.
Roscoe's is pretty good, too. A little far to go for chicken and waffles, though.
