Yesterday's news: Princeton Physicist Calls Global Warming Science "Mistaken" and subsequently gets his ass fired.

Heretics? Fired. You keep the faith bud:

Noted energy expert and Princeton physicist Dr. Will Happer has sharply criticized global warming alarmism. Happer, author of over 200 scientific papers and a past director of energy research at the Department of Energy, called fears over global warming "mistaken". ...

In 1991, Happer was appointed director of energy research for the US Department of Energy. In 1993, he testified before Congress that the scientific data didn't support widespread fears about the dangers of the ozone hole and global warming, remarks that caused then-Vice President Al Gore to fire him. "I was told that science was not going to intrude on public policy", he said. "I did not need the job that badly".

I hope this isn't a hijack, but this is a link to the most interesting article I've ever read about the environment and its future, (originally published in Harper's Magazine):

These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science , [ 6 ] including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries . [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] While individual scientists have voiced disagreement with these findings, [ 10 ] the overwhelming majority of scientists working on climate change agree with the IPCC's main conclusions. About the meteorologist on Fox News cameo-d posted:

1.) He is a meteorologist, not a climatologist. His expertise is weather, not climate. Look it up if you are unfamiliar with the distinction.

2.) The news anchor compared carbon dioxide to water vapor. The meteorologist did nothing to correct him. CO2 = 1 carbon + 2 oxygen. Water vapor (aka H20) = 2 hydrogen + 1 oxygen. Not the same. Both contribute to the greenhouse effect, but they are not the same. LOL.

I'm sure there's more to the story about why he was fired. Reminds me of the Expelled movie where people complained about getting fired/blacklisted because of ID. The reality was different.

Science progresses when people challenge the status quo. Someone may be criticized if they go against a theory that is backed by a huge amount of evidence, but that criticism wanes once the dissenting scientist's data is analyzed and found to be compelling. BTW, since when are physicists experts on climatology?

If his CV is so bad, then why did the government use him to inform it's public policy as part of a science think tank? The man is prominent, I suspect he wouldn't have such a strong opinion affect his scientific career unless he really meant it.

Climatology touches on much of physics..fluid dynamics..heat exchange..astrophysics..guess what field developed the formulae used in climate computer simulations? This fellow is an expert in spectroscopy, a field which is used for remote sensing from space and involves the study of how radiation interacts with matter. I quoted the leading hurricane expert on the first page of this thread, and he called the whole thing a "hoax".

There are scientists that disagree, sure, but the point is that it would be stupid to engage in massive, massive, massive social engineering, bureaucratic centralization of power and everything else along with with its attendant economic costs on a theory that lacks consensus support. The jury is still out, scientifically. This would be akin to invading a country based on bad intelligence, and we already know how expensive that was.

You know Non-Linear Dynamics got its start in climatology and weather prediction?

hamilcarr, the information in your quote is unaccurate. Groups of scientists have voiced disagreement, not just individuals.

Enough people are already realizing the weakness of the argument, and it is being eroded in the court of public opinion, so now we see the message "out there" changing from global warming to merely being "green". Anyways, much of this Global Warming stuff is just an excuse to control people on a global scale. Until our best scientists find a way to fuel cars with hemp and bodyodor, these envirotards and their political allies are never going to be satisfied with anything less than a regression of humanity to the middle ages. Perhap's that's why Renaissance fairs are so popular with these stinky douchebags.
