    ' is our current western civilization sustainable and is it the ideal for developing nations to aspire to?'

    No.

    The available biological capacity lies around 1,8 gha per capita.

    Bah, the only limiting factor on human population is human imagination and intelligence, not raw land. Besides, the universe is huge.

    Ok you global warming doubters, I have a question. Do you truly, honestly, believe that our current ways have no negative impact on the earth and our future?

    I am not saying to ruin the planet, but that we are have the capacity to support ourselves without ruining it, and that resource scarcity is an illusion. Malthus was wrong, and will be wrong again. Nothing has any value unless a human gives it value. Petroleum was worthless rock oil until someone created uses for it. And here is another thing: the more humans come into the world, the higher the odds that the truly world changing genius will be born in that generation. The one that breaks all the old paradigms.

    It is also a mistake to conflate alleged AGW with all other environmentally destructive activities. Yes, we have done, and are still doing, shortsighted destructive things. However I refuse to stop clubbing seals.

    So you believe that some of our ways are detrimental to our own health? I'm talking about on an earth scale, not cream puffs and Jagermeister.

    I think I was pretty clear on that. Ag runoff is a biggie around here. The runoff wreaks havoc with our estuarine and nearshore habitats where I live. Being on the water and fishing is next to religion for me. I live by Everglades national park and the Ten-thousand islands. During wet years when they have to discharge a lot of water from Lake Okeechobee and it ruins everything. Algae blooms, red tide (although it is a natural occurrence documented in these waters for 500 years), smelly water, fish kills. I hate it.

    just for clarity my question was:

    is our current western civilization sustainable and is it the ideal for developing nations to aspire to?

    @BTS

    confirm your answer is no to both parts please....

    Otherwise why the need for world changing genius breaking all the old paradigms?

    So why try to destroy a movement to improve??? It's cutting off your nose to spite your face on a major scale. Better to err on the side of caution. You just hate anything semi left even if it would be in your own and your offspring's best interests. I don't blame you, I blame the conservative media bias.
