I'll give you the answer-Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

That gets a little closer to the nuts and bolts of the issue. Are you implying tha the variables involved in the measurement of particles and the waves of energy's that particles produce (are produced by) are so great that the big bang and the resulting evolution of earth and man was mathematically inevitable?

While this and other governing quantum physics principles can help us understand the how, it doesn't explain the why, which is a road I was hoping to explore as well.

Such facts do not seem to relate to behavior and experience, which I postulate cannot be reduced to a quantum physics problem.

There is meaning beyond the nuts and bolts of pure naturalism. We decide what meaning is. This is spirituality in part. We are the Universe becoming Self Aware. We are the beginning.

I have been leaning in this direction lately.... We can't rely on organized religion to do this work for us...

Hooberus posted this link earlier today.

I'm bringing it to this thread for 2 reasons.

To see if links will work.

To see if any will comment on its contents.

Who do we rely on? What do we rely on? The major flaw of organized religion is that has often tended to introduce a stasis. However abused, it has not always been solely a tool for power. Like all things human, it has been abused. It does provide a framework though. Humans have a need for ritual, and a need to communally participate in meaning. Are we islands? When there are many, a rubric inevitably emerges.

Ultimately, we are all just threads in the tapestry. My intuition has long told me that theism and humanism are really the same thing. However I find myself incapable of elucidating this feeling. For me, that God and Human participated in the person Christians worship, Jesus, has a profound......

Snowbird, I have not read the article, but I suspect that DNA carries layers upon layers upon layers of meaning. I think it is a biological palimpsest. It is a biological Bible. I think we are only scratching the surface of the information it contains.

Well, hopefully they will comment on the contents of this on that thread....

Not very persuasive imo. It has been a common arguement that DNA argues for a theistic creator/god simply because of its complexity. That is the conclusion. Allow me to mimic the paper as I read it.

    Codes+Codes+Codes+Meta-Information= CREATION!!!!

All this paper does is draw conclusions based solely on the "Wow, I can't believe it's not evolution" crowd.

This looks like something JW's will write in 30 years, once they evolve.....

Btw, I hope everyone will continue to comment on my original thread, as I look for atheists to talk about their philosophy and world view in the absence of a traditional theistic mind set....

Is it possible to limit religion to that? Can it be candidly and honestly acknowledged as such?

    How?

Humans, remember? Flawed humans. We can take a good idea and kill millions of innocents over it.
