    Tex,

As you may know, Lennon loathed that McCartney tune. In fact, the placement of the track on the album, "Let it Be", was meant as an intentional slap in the face of Paul and religious people.

The track is sandwiched between 'Dig It' and 'Dirty Maggie May', the latter being a song about a whore. (NOTE: Mother Mary is actually not a reference to Catholicism. Paul's mother's name was Mary. You cannot deny the religious/spiritual feel of the tune, however. Most certainly Paul would known that people would have viewed it as having spiritual overtones.)

Lennon and Phil Spector are largely responsible for the lineup/production, and some of this directly led to the culmination of things that caused the Beatles to split.

This is great -- a Beatles song not found on their original albums. I never heard it before finding it on Youtube, so it was a revelation to me....sounds perfectly like an outtake from Revolver, one of my favorite Beatles albums:

    This is an interesting video:

The quality completely sucks but there is a good reason for this. This is John and Paul's appearance on the Tonight Show in 1968, the tape of which has been lost. This is a famous appearance because Johnny Carson didn't bother to host the show, and they took it as a slap to them, especially since the fill-in host didn't know them very well and asked them a lot of stupid questions -- so John and Paul gave him a hard time. No video exists of the show. But two Beatles fans across the country tried to record it with the only technology they had at their disposal. One used a silent home movie camera and took only a series of clips (in those days, you would have to change the replace the film after a few minutes), and another recorded the audio with a tape system. They met on the internet and the two sources are combined together to make this Youtube video.

For Beatles fans I found this some time ago. Surely this is "the disgusting thing that causes desolation." ?

    So who's everyone's favorite Beatle?

George was mine. I loooooove his whimsical voice and guitar style -- especially when he did slide.
