As you may know, Lennon loathed that McCartney tune. In fact, the placement of the track on the album, "Let it Be", was meant as an intentional slap in the face of Paul and religious people.

The track is sandwiched between 'Dig It' and 'Dirty Maggie May', the latter being a song about a whore. (NOTE: Mother Mary is actually not a reference to Catholicism. Paul's mother's name was Mary. You cannot deny the religious/spiritual feel of the tune, however. Most certainly Paul would known that people would have viewed it as having spiritual overtones.)

Lennon and Phil Spector are largely responsible for the lineup/production, and some of this directly led to the culmination of things that caused the Beatles to split.

As well as some of Lennon's snide remarks on the album. I've read where Lennon wanted Spector's infamous 'wall of sound' to ruin McCartney's songs on "Let it Be", particularly "Long and Winding Road".

I think the film is very hard to watch. Not just because it's put together badly, but because you see the band breaking up.

BTW, my mom ran the Beatles fan club in Hollywood, CA way back in the day. She tried to work out a deal to bring the Beatles to Disneyland but it never went anywhere. She also was a songwriter and for a brief while had a band (which even published their own songs and recorded demos), but my grandmother forbade her to sign a record contract so they broke up.

    That is all true, sir.

The Long and Winding Road was probably THE deal breaker. Lennon played the bass on it, and there are multiple mistakes. (Paul was the bassist, and a perfectionist. This was particularly insulting.) Then, Spector puts the instrumentation behind it. (Ironically, of course, fans around the world love the instrumentation, and even McCartney himself will add it at his concerts.

I love the comments here and the youtube finds. It's amazing what is available to catalog the history of the group. Just a few years ago, most of this was available only to a select few people.

For Tex, if you like bluesey stuff check this one out.

Man, Lennon was cocky, at the same time scared sh*tless about getting in front of a group.

You know it's funny, I was just a kid when "Let it Be" came out and I loved the original "Long and Winding Road", but after hearing the 'naked' version that came out a few years ago, I much prefer that. It's cleaner with a clear sound and purpose without sentimentality. If that makes sense.

BTW I've been introding my kids to the Beatles the past couple of years (ages 15 and 13) and I finally let them listen to Revolution 9. My daughter kept saying over and over, "What kind of drugs were they on?" and my son said it gave him a headache.

I don't know the history of that clip. Clam probably has it. I just know that that is one talented group in their early years, and we get to see it!

One thing that can be certainly be said is that they were a band that utilized their popularity to express their personal sociological

thinking which imprinted such a strong influence toward their own generation and we can attribute some of are own social consciousness

    to them. Thank you Beatles
