This a very poorly and vacuously argued- if that what it is - piece of journalism. There is no statement at all of the UK laws, yet they rant against them, not at all conducive to informed debate.

The journalist picks one cause celebre, Tony Martin and then thinks she shows that we in the UK want firearms, well most in the UK simply do not. I know of no one here who would like to carry a firearm, no one, including the most Police Officers I have met.

A friend of mine was a firearms officer in the Metropolitan Police , his point of view was only very highly trained officers should carry guns, and he certainly does not want to have one at his private residence.

If Americans believe that the arguments adduced here are representative of the way most of us in the UK think, they are being misled badly. Some people do , yes no question, but most do not.

The journalist clearly has has a pro gun agenda and is being disingenuous in her argument.

I dont believe the majority of people in this country want a change to the gun laws.

I quite enjoy shooting and used to shoot at a club in the UK as a member of their rifle team. The longer I spent at the club the more disillusioned I became with the people at the club who wanted a change in the gun laws. Generally all the people who I wouldnt trust with a spud gun were the ones who were most vocal in their desire to relax the gun laws.

In the end I quit shooting in so that I had to spend less time in the company of these lunatics, if I could find a club with a more rational membership I would join tomorrow.

It was an editorial on an editorial. No rebuttal necessary.
