I liked the reversing all the torture stuff. The bail-out, time will tell. It's a bit early to be figuring if he's doing a good job or bad. I think it's funny that I've already seen more press conferences and town hall meetings explaining the decisions he's making from Obama than in all eight years of GW in office.

Krugman on the compromise stimulus package:

What do you call someone who eliminates hundreds of thousands of American jobs, deprives millions of adequate health care and nutrition, undermines schools, but offers a $15,000 bonus to affluent people who flip their houses?

A proud centrist. For that is what the senators who ended up calling the tune on the stimulus bill just accomplished.

The American public strongly approves of Obama, does not agree with GOP on Stimulus...

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/02/another-poll-shows-public-approving-obama-disapproving-gop-on-stimulus.php

Obama has a 76% overall job approval and 23% disapproval. On the economy specifically, his rating is 72%-28%. Meanwhile, Congress has a very poor rating of 29%-71% -- but it quickly becomes clear that this should be not be simply laid at the feet of the majority Democrats, and is instead the GOP's fault.
The Democratic leadership in Congress has a solid rating of 60%-39%, while the Republican leaders are at 44%-55%. Furthermore, respondents said by 74%-25% that Obama is doing enough to cooperate with Republicans, while they say by a 60%-39% margin that Republicans are not doing enough to cooperate with him.

Pretty hard to evaluate someone who's just been in office for few weeks and has just establish his cabinet administrators.

Makes me really wonder why is there so much scrutiny being conducted here in this forum.

Wouldn't it be prudent and effectively honest to make evaluations on his performance after lets say a few months ?

The little of what he has done seemed to have received wide spread support, its most likely that it wont be until this summer

or latter that a clearer picture will appear.

I don't like him using "Czar" to call his cabinet members.

I don't like his stimulus package at all. This "economic rescue" sneaks in nationalized healthcare by implementing a healthcare czar who's domain controls your access to medical treatment based on a scoring system where a person's age and the cost of treatment are factored in. This is all based on a book by Tom Daschle called "Critical." This is why Obama wanted Daschle as his healthcare Czar. Daschle wants to make the US healthcare system like Canada, England, etc.

U.S. Taxpayers Risk $9.7 Trillion on Bailout Programs

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=washingtonstory&sid=aGq2B3XeGKok

That is two-thirds of the entire value of everything produced by the USA in the last year. 2008 GDP was 14.8 trillion. Clean out your ears: we are not on the hook for two-thirds of the federal budget but two-thirds of the value of everything we made last year.

    Everything.

    And more to come.

Skeeter don't you think that its about time the US had some kind of national health-care system, most modern

industrialized countries now have them place. ?

In all counties that established this kind of heath care system the population overwhelmingly supported and endorsed it.

I'd like to know what news sources some of you use.

The Czar thing started with Reagan's Drug Czar, and I think it is the media that used that term. And have since Reagan.

I've heard one comment about Rush, only one, it was at least a week ago, and I've heard nothing about him since except for here.

8.7 trillion of that 9.7 risk, is already in the bag. Not Obama's watch. From the Bloomberg article.

The Federal Reserve, Treasury Department and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation have lent or spent almost $3 trillion over the past two years and pledged up to $5.7 trillion more. The Senate is to vote this week on an economic-stimulus measure of at least $780 billion. It would need to be reconciled with an $819 billion plan the House approved last month.
