I was ok with the story until he said he was shot repeatedly with tasers and had his head "ground" into glass several times. Unless this is a complete abberation, I have never seen cops torture a suspect for an extensive period of time. I have 25 years of law enforcement experience, so I can speak from a place of having been there. Can you be tasered for refusal to cooperate and resisting during a lawful arrest?...yes. Can you be subject to physical restraint if non-compliant during a lawful arrest?...yes. Can you be subject to these things for merely refusing to answer a question...highly unlikely! Can you be subject to these things for failure to comply if the officer has probable cause to search your vehicle...probably!

My guess is that there is much more to this story than we see on the pastor's video...if it went down like he claims, then all officers involved should be disciplined up to and including criminal prosecution! If he forced the situation during a lawful encounter, then he made the choice to escalate the situation.

No one likes to interact with the police, but being uncooperative or aggressive is not the way to successfully exercise your civil rights...trust me, as a whole, cops are not out to "get you". They want to get on with their day just like you do...

I tend to agree with Amazing and TenYears. Something is missing here.

But there is still something fishy about this "preacher's" story ... I just can't quite completely swallow it ... I would like to hear the cops side of the story ... and see the police video ... maybe it will show up on the TV show "Cops" or one of the Cable TV reality police shows.

That was my initial impression also!

First of all, many people will believe him just because "he is a preacher". We all know a man of the cloth would never lie.

He has "instant believability" because of his 'status'.

This whole thing could be staged for a purpose of inciting gullible people based on the prima facie of 'believability'.

Who is financing his time, gas, and other expenses to promote Ron Paul? His congregation? Is his entire congregation RP supporters?

I am assuming he is a paid preacher. Therefore, why is he involved with political campaigns instead of doing the job he is being paid to do?

Shouldn't he be visiting the sick? Or helping at the food bank? Or counseling the troubled? Preaching a funeral or conducting a wedding? Preparing Sunday's sermon?

Do preachers have so little to do these days? Or do some just shirk responsibility?

What about separation of church and state? I was under the impression that preachers who voiced political concerns and especially political endorsements from the pulpit were in danger of loosing tax free exemption of the church by doing that.

So....could this be a maneuver to overturn his tax free status?

Is it all a set up and this guy is being paid as an actor to pull this off? (You know I wouldn't put it past him even if he is a preacher. It has been known that preachers have hired people to "throw down their crutches" for miracle "healing events." ) I certainly wouldn't put it past anyone to be on the take or be an opportunist. Just like WT GB, most preachers are aware that they are tickling ears and deceiving people. It's a business, folks.

Or...could it also be a ploy to start replacing law enforcement personnel with privatized "security contractors"? There have been bits of news that this is starting to be done in some towns. Seems a company out of Chicago is supplying the privatized law enforcement.

"he is a preacher". We all know a man of the cloth would never lie. lol lol

I feel its wrong what the Police did.

If the Preacher had nothing to hide, he should have open the trunk of the Car.

He made his choice, he should have cooperated with the Police.

I don't feel sorry for him.

CBS13 is asking the question: Why was the level of force used?

Border patrol says it was officers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety that stepped in and used the tasers. DPS has issued a statement on the incident, reprinted here in its entirety:

The U.S. Border Patrol asked the Arizona Department of Public Safety to assist their Officers with a combative motorist who refused to cooperate at a checkpoint in the westbound lanes of Interstate 8. Steven L. Anderson, the combative motorist, was arrested by a DPS Officer for resisting a lawful order during the incident and booked into the Yuma County Jail.

Mr. Anderson never filed a complaint with DPS concerning his arrest but instead made a You-Tube video that featured his version of the events of that day.An investigation by the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Professional Standards Bureau is underway. DPS is looking at current agency policies and procedures that officers must comply with when requested by any agency to respond to checkpoints.

In this particular instance DPS will look at our Officer's response and actions. We will offer no further comment on this incident until the investigation has been concluded.

*It should be noted that in 1976, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of Federal checkpoints near border areas to enforce laws prohibiting illegal immigration. This U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint along Interstate 8 is in compliance with federal law.*

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

This is the sort of police state shit you are constantly harping about and now you dismiss the guy's story because he's a minister? So, in this case you like the police state? It's okey dokey with you just as long as they are tasering people who are ministers, or people you don't like? You are quite a piece of work. Hypocrite too.

Last week in Grandview, a subdivision of Kansas City, U.S. Marshals tasered an innocent man while he was playing basketball at a community center. They just charged in and tasered him in a case of mistaken identity:

Hey Robdar, did you hear about the case where a cop arrested a woman because her kid wasn't wearing a seatbelt? http://sol.lp.findlaw.com/2000/atwater.html

    Hey, JD.

No, I didn't hear about that one. I cannot bring up the findlaw link, either. I'll try tomorrow at the law office. Our computers are more updated than the one I have here at home.
