Could Watchtower Collapse Be Sooner Than You Think?

I remember a convention about 10 years ago when a brother on the platform told us that anything with aliens was unsuitable for Christians

That's interesting. I've certainly heard my fair share of whacky things coming from the platform, a local elder saying that cowboy hats were not appropriate comes to mind.

However, what sets Losch's comment apart is that he presumably speaks for the governing body. The GB has final say on what the rules are, what is and isn't appropriate for JWs, what is and isn't a disfellowshipping offense. The GB is supposed to speak with one voice. You know, Jehovah works through them as his channel and what not. Well, why would Losch go off on his own and make such a bold statement without the rest of the GBs backing? Is Losch a loose cannon the rest of the GB cannot control? Does he feel he doesn't need to get the backing of the GB before making such a statement? You usually don't see this kind of behavior where the leadership team is on the same page.

There will always be some form of Watchtower/Jehovah's Witnesses. Their message plays on the fears of the weak minded and sucks them in. They can manuever around money issues to survive.

Very interesting post that Lost-In-Translation made. If the magazine pickup is actually changing, then the WTBS would probably send the congregation a set number of magazines based on the number of publishers, just like they do for tracts. In this way the WTBS can control how many magazines to produce and distribute instead of the publishers dictating the need to the WTBS. This is certainly a method to save on their costs if they are financially strapped.

The new song book cost only PENNIES to produce.

Music printing software now costs as little as $60 .

The Brown Songbook was set either in Finale or Sibelius.

If they think they can persuade me to pay $10 for a rag that cost only a dollar or so on slave labor HAHAHAHA!

    Great thread.

On top of all the other comments thus far I think it's important to remember that the Watch Tower Society only had a shelf life of 40 years; the world was supposed to end in 1914, remember. We're almost 100 years past that date...

That's the most important point to be made. The WT may be having cash-flow problems, but that doesn't signal its collapse by any stretch of the imagination. Think about it. What would happen if they announced tomorrow that literature placement with the public would come to an end? Nothing. Things would go on as normal. JWs would place cheap tracts or find other ways to carry on field service.

Also- Another LARGER financial child abuse settlement involving many more witness victims. I think these 2 things would speed up the process.

I'd like to see them sued for all the Witnesses who died because of their ban on blood transfusions. That'd cost them a pretty penny.

neverendingjourney said: There are a lot of signs that there is gridlock at the governing body level. By that I mean that there is not a sufficient consensus to get any major reforms passed, so we see a bunch of stop gap measures designed to plug holes in the dam's wall, if you will. The organization is stuck in the past. Its doctrine is out of date and nonsensical and badly in need of reform. The preaching work is useless and ineffective. To modernize the religion, a strong leader is needed to take the group in a new direction. Its leadership by committee structure inherently prevents this.

Excellent summary of a basic, but huge problem. Because they've had certain procedures in place for so many decades, they fail to see why their methods just aren't working too well anymore.

Cameo-d Well, they knew the end was near. They should have planned for it better.
