Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions regarding "attention seekers"?

Anti-witnesses have their own buzz words and set rhetoric and what I find the wierdest but understandable I suppose, a complete dislike of using the name of God Jehovah even in reference to the Jehovah's witnesses name.

My reply: First of all Jehovah is not God'sname...it is a mistransliteration. Anyway, I use it on occasion...do not have a dislike. I would say that the name has been made to look ugly by the WT by the many false prophecies they have stated in the name of Jehovah- a name used so much by the JWs.

Seems to be a bit of a lag in the board when a thread rolls over to a new page... not seeing your post isaacaustin though it's showing that you posted on the Active Topics page. thinking

It seems to only happen to the first post on a new page, once the second post has been made it's ok. Don't really know what would cause that but might have a looksie around anyway out of curiosity if nothing else.

    Hi Bonafide,

Good post and from what I understand, attention seeking is a personality disorder evident in emotionally immature persons.

"The emotionally immature person, however, has low levels of self-esteem and self-confidence and consequently feels insecure; to counter these feelings of insecurity they will spend a large proportion of their lives creating situations in which they become the centre of attention. It may be that the need for attention is inversely proportional to emotional maturity, therefore anyone indulging in attention-seeking behaviours is telling you how emotionally immature they are."

    Read more about it here:http://www.bullyonline.org/workbully/attent.htm

I usually just try to keep my distance. If I see a thread here and know that the author has a history of airing all their drama online, I do my best to avoid reading their threads or commenting on them. The odd time I've called someone out as being attention seeking, only to have that confirmed in more ways than I could have possibly imagined.

Sometimes, dealing with attention seekers is unavoidable. When I have a patient assignment that includes someone very needy / attention seeking, I often know it immediately because they are ringing the call light every 5 minutes for the silliest of things. My strategy is to go and see them first, and plan with them to come in to check in on them regularly. I let them know that they are not my only patient and that if I don't answer right away, it is because I am helping someone else and that I will get to them in turn.

Just curious to know why you think they deserve more of someone's interest/attention and TLC than anyone else?

    Scully-

Sometimes, these people have emotional issues that really call for counseling; they're not always able to see their own behavior as others do.

Having said that, I try to be pleasant to the ones I encounter, for about one minute, then I just leave. I'm not a shrink, I can't help another person with their problems, and it would be a waste of my time and theirs for me to try.

Scully, it's not that they deserve more interest/ attention and TLC. It's just that their personality needs to be heard with real, genuine personal interest and TLC, despite personality differences that may seem rejectionable. It's just that some have been rejected, when it wasn't called for.
