Do you think they will take the time to read the bill before the vote? I'd love to know and think about what's in it.

    It's over 1,000 pages, so I don't think they'll read it.

As I understand it, this is quite common. The earmarks issue only makes large bills worse.

The ends of the sentences of the cut and paste article are cut off. Can you provide a link?

Geez Deputy...glad you prefer the American way. I guess your mom at 80, being the envy of your family, has some pretty good healthcare does she?

I am Canadian..didn't move to the USA until I was over 40, have American relatives - including those that moved to the USA and back to Canada in a hurry and all of my Canadian relatives wouldn't touch the USA style of healthcare for anything. No contest. Hands down Canadian system wins.

My Canadian mother recieved care in the last 10 years of her life, including home care, emergency, rehab and long term, that would have bankrupted any American the same age...I know because my mother in law at 84 or so, had a stroke and was still left to pay thousands of dollars from her measly pension from social security. The care was good - the bill meant she sold her car to pay for it. Was the care better? No.

My mother paid nothing and received fantastic care.

I would never advocate the American system of healthcare because it is not the best and serves only the richest in the American society. That's only about 1/3 of the people living there - the rest are pretty well screwed. I have a pre-existing condition and can't even get coverage unless I have $1,000 a month to pay for it - and thats not including the out of pocket expenses. In Canada, I spent 6 years going to neurosurgeons at no cost to me. I had the freedom to go to a variety of specialists and brain surgery was covered completely. I would have died here in the USA because there is no way I could have afforded the cost of a specialist let alone the cost of surgery. I went in for a biopsy twice - day surgery - and left with only a prescription and no bill.

The USA has the most unequal society in the industrialized world and your health care system is a measure of that. It breeds division...other countries that provide universal health care have at least moved up the ladder in that respect.

If you like the healthcare system in the USA and you have good care, why worry? Obama's plan will only serve as competition for insurance companies - he isn't providing universal care. Everyone is free to keep the care they have so no worries. To say it is the best or greatest - that's a fallacy. sammieswife.

As long as your not on a waiting list for tests or surgery you may not know what your missing.

Actually I'm glad you like the Canadian system. Maybe Canada can pickup the tab for all our illegal aliens. We all know what would happen if they went to Canada for "free" health care.

I'm going to make this post and then walk away from this thread. Some of you are more enslaved to supporting your worldview than actually finding out what some people are doing.

My father devoted his life to curring a disease that most people thought was incurable, leukemia. Since a lot of insurance won't pay for the treatment ability to pay is not an issue at places like the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. My sister is doing AIDS research and probably making about half of what she could make somewhere else. My brother volunteers several days a week doing free medical care on an Indian Reservation, filling in the gaps on what their government run health care doesn't pay for.

If you guys want to think that the US health care system is run only for the benefit of the rich, enjoy your delusions. If you get sick, don't worry, one of us will take care of you anyway.

Obama is already saying that government is going to make health care decisions and that if it is not cost effective to give Mom cancer or coronary care - goodbye Mom. Why is it better for the government to ration my care than an insurance company?

And just what do you think your mother's insurance company is going to do? They are going to cut corners to save money and will attempt to deny your mother treatment. If you think the insurance companies give a rat's ass about your mother you are very mistaken.

A paralegal in my building has been with Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 30 years. Now that she has breast cancer. guess who's fighting with her over treatment?

It is my understanding that the system in Canada is triage based. If your need is urgent, you move to the front of the line.

I wonder if there is a cure for your inability to give a hoot about anything but your wallet?

If an insurance company denies me coverage, I can complain to the government. If the government denies me coverage, who will I complain to?
