And for Burns, notice Banting sold the patent for $1.00 - because his motive was altruistic - not profit! Difficult to understand, I know.

I think somebody just got burned.

Just an interesting article about diabetes for John Doe:

The article is without factual basis. I am currently on a generic insulin. Furthermore, I have paid roughly the same price for insulin for the past 20 years.

When I first started taking insulin, I was put on N and R, both by Lilly. Later, I took the biologically engineered stuff Humulin N and Humulin R. This was roughly $20 a bottle for a lot of years. Somewhere around 2000, Lilly medication started increasing. The last bottle I bought was over $30. I am now on a generic Wal Mart brand Novalin N and Novalin R, and they are $24. So, in the past 20 years, my insulin costs have increased by $4 a bottle.

I'm sorry you have to go through that bro! I'm on Lexapro for my depression. What a wonderful drug, but it costs around $150-200 a month. Because we have health insurance it only costs $40 a month. Without insurance I couldn't afford it, and I would not enjoy the quality of life I have. I know that the drug company that developed costs for the R and D of this drug, and I know they feel like they have to recoup their costs plus a profit before the patent expires. I have no problem with that. But what about all the people out there who are suffering without Lexapro because they can't afford it? There has to be some kind of common ground solution that can help MORE people.

I realize that my thinking on this may be simplistic, but dammit real people are suffering. Maybe I'm too idealistic. I really do believe there has to be some way of making our healthcare system work for everybody. Not just those of us who are lucky enough, or who have worked hard enough to have insurance.

Jeep, I was on antidepressants for a couple of years--from 2005 to 2007. Welbutrin xl--probably saved me from suicide. It was $5 a pill. I couldn't pay either, even though I had insurance, but the drug maker's their patient assistance program provided me with 3 month supplies for something like $15. I've moved beyond that area in my life, and find I no longer need the stuff. But, as I've said before, there is help out there for those who need it.

A new poll shows that 77% of Americans favor the public option. Evidently the last set of polls had been deliberately worded to inject fear into the minds of those polled and skew the data. Imagine that.

I realize that my thinking on this may be simplistic,

just don't let a right winger call it that based on what you've said, because w/o knowing the math, neither you, nor the rightwinger, has a clue where the cost stops and the profit starts for the drug company. So yeah, it's simplistic, but it's not idealogically simplistic, it's just lacking the relevant data.

Jeep has obviously been getting free treatment for the sores on his arm for months. Typical gov't medical services. Looks like a flesh eating bacteria, better get some real health care.

Yeah you're right. I'm just trying to communicate my real motive in this discussion. We can do better!

I really hate that picture. I layed my mountain bike over and left some skin on the trail. I posted it because at the time it reflected my feelings towards JW's....like a bad case of road rash. Believe me if we could edit our avatars that pic would be gone.

    Sorry for the disgusting image!
