Purps you should have been a posterchild!! So many people out there who haven't been down that far (yet) have such a nasty view of those who have had to use the system. Everyone in this country is just one disaster or hey, even one bad choice as it was in my case, away from being there themselves.
I was also an active JW (told this story at an assembly for a part on being in subjection to superior authorities) and I felt my energy would be used better preaching door to door!!!!
jeep, and yes my ex was an abusive alcoholic man, and I decided if I had to shovel shit the rest of my life, my kids and I would not be exposed to that treatment any longer and hopefully not pass this on to their kids.
And every woman in this country who is in a situation like that should not hesitate or feel guilty or ashamed to use the system to get out of such a place!

Beks did not see your post until I posted. I remember the first month I got Food Stamps. The entire month was what my previous budget was for a week!!!!! Wow, did I have to make some changes. We ran out of food once and we ate nothing but rice for three days straight. By now I had been DF and an old worldy friend came by to visit. I was very proud and did not want anyone to know just how bad things were, but she wiggled it out of me and gave me $175 CASH out of her purse to buy groceries. An awful worldly person she was.
I help people at every opportunity I can and my children do the same for others. We are not well educated people, no rocket scientist, but I know at least 4 of my kids would give another the shirt off their back and to my knowledge none of my four sons have ever hit a woman.
Have a great day, check you all this afternoon.

Libertarians would push an entire country backward a few hundred years if they could. Back to the Witch Hunts to ferret out those that think differently -
If you had an inkling of understanding of what libertarian political philosophy is, you would not have made this statement.
Regarding child labor, it is always a response to extreme poverty. My grandfather for example, has a 6th grade education. He stopped schooling in order to work. They were an extremely poor family. Ten siblings. What would have been better? To go hungry? Under those circumstances, if children were prohibited from working at all, they, they and the rest of the family would be worse off. When wealth and family income grow, the incidence of child labor naturally declines in direct proportion. HIS children, my father included, did not have to do this. He had secured a reasonable upper lower class lifestyle for them where education was stressed.
But still. For the most part, libertarians believe in enforceable contracts. They are the foundation of market exchanges. Yet, the common law that had risen from centuries of those exchanges demonstrastes that such contracts are void if one side has restricted capacity to negotiate or enforce them. Those with severe mental disabilities as well as children are classic examples of this.

And (at least up until now) somebody to pay for them...?

You foresee not having anyone to pay for them Woods?? I guess you might be right. If we keep going the way we have been, there will be no middle class, and the top will pay no taxes.
