Why is god hiding?

I solidly believe he is either dead [either literally or metaphorically] or never was.

I respectfully submit that if you really think that, you wouldn't worry about it.

    Namaste.

Why? I am not worried - that seems an odd characterization of this question - I am intrigued by the mind of otherwise logical, coherent minds to accept god without putting these questions to task. If the believers in god were subjected to the irrational dog metaphor I listed above, precisely none of them would fall for the gag. But billions fall for the gag that has seduced them to accept and believe bald-faced pretense about god without bothering to fire a neuron to examine the matter objectively. They sacrifice entire lives in the service of a god that is no more provable than the invisible dog.

This is worrisome to some extent - for many reasons.

    Oh, I stand corrected.

How do I know this? I did it! I swallowed the unprovable irrational explanations for many decades without so much as taking an honest look - I just chided or ignored all arguments of substance. If anyone asked me to 'prove' god to them, I just chuckled. How could they be so ignorant as to not see him in everything ?

I no longer do that. Hence the questions. I hope it makes someone think. That is all I can do.

Ignorance is bliss - but it sucks up our lives just the same.

Yes Jeff, you are understandable angry that you spent so many years believing in something that you no longer do. Many people feel a similar sense of betrayal and loss after a divorce. Losing our religion has many similarities.

The thing is, the past is gone and all we have is now. To enjoy now we have to let go of yesterday's pain, anger, frustration and loss. I too have allowed myself to become angry at people who have the comfort of religion while my mind will not allow me the luxury. But, as you say, "They sacrifice entire lives in the service of a god that is no more provable than the invisible dog."

I am no longer envious of other peoples faith. If that's what they need to make sense of their lives, then so be it. I am just glad to be free of living a delude life - being a gladiator helps. I respect people who live by faith but life for me, is more real without it.

I know that it might seem as though I am nursing anger. I'm not. Not really. I have in the past.

I am only seeking to promote thought process as opposed to acceptance without thought. If someone chooses to love an unknown entity, unwilling to defend that entity, unable to present evidence of that entity - well ok!

But acceptance of that entity has been the force that has created the most turmoil, pain and ignorance on this earth for a long time. It is immoral to ignore entirely that which is impediment to mankind's progress in many areas. I cannot overturn it. But I can be part of the effort to overturn such ignorance.

The flip side of that coin is obvious. If someone knows and can prove that I am wrong in this - please step forward - my salvation is at stake, right? Do your part. Show conclusive proof. Unfortunately, there will be no takers.

I sense a dialogue about what constitutes "proof" in the spiritual realm coming on.

Know this, Jehovah your God desires FAITH, without it, it is impossible to please him well. Hebrews 11:6 ya'll. ;-)

God is not an easily definable concept. So "finding God/Jesus" is inherently personal and unique. There is little we can learn from the experiences of others in doing so due to that uniqueness.

If he desires faith, then why tell us we need to 'prove all things' in 1 Thessalonians 5:21?

Know this also - Jehovah your God is scatterbrained and more than a little schizo.
