Maybe... the questions and disappointments aren't the faults of God, but of the religions who so wrongly misrepresent Him?
I think He's evident in creation since the evolution theories seem to lack, to me, 'Cause'. Personally I believe "God" was the wonderful intelligence behind the formation of the universes, especially looking at this earth and all it's inhabitants. I respect anyone's choice to believe or not to believe - but I don't think God's to blame here. I think religion - any "organised" religion - puts doctrines and church edicts ahead of the very little stated in the Bible about creation. They've all come up with some pretty illogical and unreasoning theories themselves - none of it God's plan. But they all claim "GOD said it!" and beat you to death with their own holy book if they can't MAKE you believe the exact same way they do. It's my disdain for the extremes of religion - any of it - that makes me so strongly feel that 'faith' isn't in the tangible things we see, feel or know, but in a spiritual and intangible plane that no amount of religiosity can touch. I've known a few atheists and agnostics who will surely be judged better representatives of God than the religionists who've already condemned them - to an eternal lava bath! Lol - there's no freakin' way so much of that crap's true, Jeff! Underneath it all, though - to me - some truth escapes getting dirty - do good for everyone you can, be honest, be loyal to family and friends --- it's your heart that matters. Enjoy life and love it - don't let religion burden you, 'cause that's all it can do. It's not of God and has proven through so much gorey history that it doesn't even come close. God IS, but He is NOT in religion or their woefully lacking picture of Him.
... just a thought...
ps - I guess this is why we don't exchange Christmas cards anymore, huh? - was going thru my addresses the other day and there you were!

Something that always bothered me was this constant parroting of the he has hidden these things from the wise and intellectual and revealed them to babes. What is that supposed to mean?

startingover
Thanks for starting the thread Jeff. Anyone who bases their life on reality and not emotion can understand how important the things you brought up are.
I have gotten the same response from a friend when presenting this type of evidence that you got from Snowbird, ie if you really didn't care you would not worry about it. In my case, I don't worry about it but bring it up because of people like Snowbird who present their emotional experience as reality based. If people like her would just admit it's just something that makes them feel good and that it could be nothing more than a delusion, I would not feel he need to bring up the subject. But I have yet to see anyone like her do that.
Being mislead for so many years because I just happened to have parents who tainted me from birth and never explained that there might be another choice, I applaud your efforts to spread the message of reality which hopefully someday will relagate Jesus to the status of Hercules.

The bible writers were no dummies. They could see that the higher learning and intellectualism of the Greeks and Romans was a terrible danger to their God.
"Poisoning the Well". The JWs do the same thing in chapter 1 of all of their bible study aids. "Now, some of your friends and family may want you to stop studying....because they're possessed by Satan."

My take on the question, "Why is god hiding?" is currently the following*:
We can not see god because he's everywhere. The universe IS god, the creator. It isn't a "He" or a "She" but rather it is just the natural arrangement of all things. It isn't a separate conscious entity but rather exists within all things because it IS all things. We can live in harmony with it or we can oppose it.
Religions have tried to humanize it by giving it anthropomorphic characteristics but have only served to confuse and enslave people to human organizations. Religions suck.
(*: I say "currently" because I am still on the journey. In fact, I feel that being raised a Dub, my journey is only just beginning.)

"Why is god hiding?"
Well, the Muslim god claims that 'he' can beat the Christian god[s] up, so lately the Christian god[s]' been spending most of 'his' time in the gym, bulking up...

You silly, silly apostates...
God isn't hiding. Do you not know your scriptures?
Ginisdashiz 2:1-3
And God saw all that he made and it was okay but it was Friday and tomorrow was his day off so instead of reworking his creation he closed up shop and went to the bar. Accordingly God had a martini and saw that it was good, so he had another. Afterwards God said, "If I feel this good after two, then three must be even better" and God proceeded to have more.
And so God got blizted.
And on the seventh day, God had a hangover of galaxy proportions. So God said, "Oh my fucking head" and went back to bed.
And that's how God's day of rest came about, of which we're still in.
So, please don't bug him while he's sleeping it off. He's liable to call down fire and brimstone if someone wakes him up before he's sobered up.

I thought the rest day ended in 1975. Don't tell me he's decided to call in sick and stay in bed another day!!!
