Would you NOT hire a JW because they're a JW?

Whether to hire someone depends solely on the characteristics of that person. I've known JWs with excellent and balanced work ethics and I've known some without those assets, just like the general population. Discriminating based on religion is, afterall, illegal. I would assume most business owners and managers would be awful careful about leaving themselves wide open to lawsuits.

Open mind brings up a very good point. If you have a serious problem with a JW. The Elders will STRONGLY discourage you from taking legal action EVEN if it is criminal in nature.

Have you been defrauded? Mt 18 applies. Try and get fair treatment on that. I was told once that I was rich and could afford to eat the loss of a contractor stiffing us. A court would have nailed the guy as a crook.

If they embezzle, which happened to us, the Elders 'insisted' we drop action because of the reproach on JG's organization. "It will look bad!" Besides, they've promised to pay you back over time. They never paid a dime back.

A non-JW did get caught embezzling once, but just the threat of jail by the prosecutor caused them to pay back the money ASAP.

I hired a cleaning service- - that was a JW business, to clean my home many years ago- and darn, if they quit the job halfway through it. Apparently they got to the room that had Crisis of Conscience and other ex-JW books on the coffee table and stopped working, packed up and bailed out. They never asked for any money for the half completed job either.

as an active witness, I viewed it as a gesture of brotherly love to recommend them to my regular clients who were looking for various needs. More often than not, I have been embarrased by the witness' ways of conducting business. So no more unless I'm sure. I assumed too much and honesty was one of the problems. Their need to witness during working hours was another obnoxious factor, as was laziness.

    Blondie:

"Question: is this a jw I have known in the past or a person unknown to me who happens to be a jw?"

I intended to cast a fairly wide net with this thread so either situation is fine.

In my case, I only hire the occasional self-employed JW and I know they are JWs.

If I found out that the computer guru working on my PC was a JW, I'd have some serious sphincter tightening. FWIW, I happen to know that the guy I'm currently using is NOT a JW.

I am conscientious anyway in everything I do & a bit of a perfectionist because of the line of work I'm in, so not all JW's make bad empoloyees.

What Heartofaboy said. And because I was always available to go the extra mile and work holidays, I received some major promotions and the pay that goes with that, too.

I would not hire a dub because they're a dub.

uhhuh, heh, heh- and I do it very well.

Which reminds, me--I went to a local video store in that same small town 20 some years ago and left a video for the manager- It was an ex-JW video, Witnesses of Jehovah, - I left the video with the instructions for the clerk to give it to the manager and tell him I wanted to loan it to his store - a free educational video. Would you believe the clerk was a JW and I "just" happened to arrive when she was on duty. She made up some story that I was harrassing her and the poor manager fell for it and called the cops. The officer came out to talk to me. Nothing happened- he gave me the video back and said the manager said I could not go into the store as it I upset the employee and she couldn't do her job, If I was going to come into the video store on a regular basis. I told him to tell the store manager, If he wanted me to stay away I would, but I would picket the front of his store with a sign- I forget the exact wording- about an hour later the manager called me up and said I could come in, but to not talk religion to the JW clerk (which I never personally did anyway). Can I help it, if just the mere presence of an apostate prevents a JW employee from performing the work they were hired to do?
