and so "evidently" we come to understand that "the 144,000 is a literal number shown to a generation so the next overlapping generation has another 144,000"

    January 1 2012 Watchtower:

How are we to understand what constitutes "this generation"? Evidently, Jesus meant that each literal member of the 144,000 represents a 'day for a year' when referring to the Last Days. By using the 360 days in a year rule, we can see that dividing 144,000 by this number gives us = 400 years that evidently makes up "this generation". Brothers! That means that there are only about 4,800 months left in this wicked System of Things!! Reports are coming in of brothers selling their homes and planning to spend the remaining centuries in the full time ministry!!

" This latest nulite allows JW's to think that all the old-light was leading to this. Belief in the 1914 generation never passing away was the anchor of modern JW's. Here's what might go through a JW's mind:

"Why would God mislead us? Well, nulite says that was sort of, but not quite what the Governing Body should have discerned. Perhaps God didn't mislead us, but the 1914 generation would not pass away in some other way. The 1995 teaching was leading them toward letting go of the idea that it was a single lifetime. The 2008 change to "anointed" was finally getting on track and with 2010's clarification, we see there is really a need for urgency."

All the more reason to point out that the Watch Tower Society taught officially back as far as 1927 that the "generation" was more than a single lifetime, viz. the Anointed ("new creation") (Watch Tower, 15. Feb. 1927), and that they changed said supposed correct teaching to a falsehood they taught as God's truth for forty-six years.

    W 15. July 1949, p. 215 par. 19
The generation of Jesus’ earthly days did not
thus see him arriving in Kingdom power. But that
generation was a prophetic illustration. It has its
modern counterpart in our generation from A.D. 1914
    forward.
This generation is the one that sees the Son
of man coming with the clouds of heaven as foretold
by Daniel, because in 1914, the year marking the end
of the Gentile times, Jehovah God gave the Kingdom
to him whose right it is.

Of course, Witnesses in general are entirely unaware of that 1927 Watch Tower...

I don't know if that wacko Witness who wrote that pile of steaming bull-crap to Poppers has any reasoning skills whatsoever, but if Poppers writes this person back, I would ask them to explain from the bible where the idea of an "over-lapping generation" is taught. Not from the Craptower, but from the bible.

That pathetic excuse of an explanation truly is one of the most lame-brain attempts at trying to prop up the "generation" doctrine, I've ever seen.

I invited her to come to this site and defend her reasoning, but she declined. Here is some of what she said about that:

The thing that puts me off forums such as the one you talk of is the malice toward the innocent ones who really genuinely with love in the hearts are out in the door to door work giving a message of hope to people. Its uncalled for and I for one on this reason alone will not be part of a forum that shows their hatred and instigates and encourages violence at times toward these JW's. It comes off as really evil and mean spirited and on that point alone they lose my interest in the words they write. I do not write evil against those who leave on their own accord because of the freedom of choice they have been given. We should all learn to respect one another and stop been so warlike against each other. Its ridiculous. I once was physically pushed into a corner by an apostate who had been a good friend of mine and abused and battered with all sorts of information....now thats just nuts and wont win anyone over. When I was disfellowshipped I didnt feel the malice and bitterness toward the organization..though I did feel it toward some in the congregation as I was very hurt and misunderstood. Jehovah though didnt leave my heart and I managed to pull myself up and return to where I know he presides. Thats me ..my choice and I shouldnt be berated over it just as you and others shouldnt be berated over what or whom ever you wish to follow or believe. We should not judge one another and we should not disrupt one anothers way of life or where they choose to worship Jehovah. The arguments from those outside the organization are strong on the surface of it all...but I also know because Im on the inside that they are very twisted and not at all factual. Cleverly worded and presented but Im way to experienced to be distracted by them. Every single point presented to me I research using material other than the Watchtower and still the Organization proves itself worthy of my attention and loyalty. So yes I am a Jehovah Witness of good standing and considered so...though I am not perfect but I am doing my best to be worthy of Jehovahs attention and protection, its a continuous and happy task..I am happy in where I am and who I am right now. We as individuals are encouraged to be open minded and be all things to all men...not all are able to do this in the congregation some do not have the personality for this...I can and do as I have been so many things in my life so I understand so many walks of life. In my ministry I have put this to good use and the elders have seen no problem with me at all and give me every freedom to express myself in my answers in the meetings and door to door. If a JW is been told to be otherwise they can and should question this and if you are really smart make sure you have the articles or the scriptures to back yourself up and in a very pleasant but firm manner state your case in your defense..I did and I do and Ive been listened too and apologized too.

"if you are really smart make sure you have the articles or the scriptures to back yourself up"...

Agreed. Please use articles and scriptures to back up the teaching that "a generation" actually means "two overlapping generations".

donuthole - that was a great comment. I will use your turn of phrase that it is the former GB passing the baton to the new younger members who are seeking legitimacy.

poppers - your friend's comments are important for exJWs to realise. Attacking a JW will not help, it needs to be done in a calm manner. Loading them with in your face facts just shuts them down. She has shown from her comments about the generation that she does not reason logically, but rather will do anything to support what she wants to believe. For her you need to just throw in some interesting comments to ponder and then be there when she is more realistic about the organisation. I would be more inclined to just ask the question what the Scriptural reason is to support the overlapping generations. And then come back that the org said the end would be 1914, then before one lifetime dies out, now before two lifetimes die out. Doesn't that indicate that they do not know how to interpret Scripture?

    Let me simplify

The end has not come -we needed to make changes -Theodore Jackass and Jack - no holes Barred, are soon to receive their heavenly reward - so we need to make some changes. And we all get to go on all expenses paid trips to District Coventions this summer to explain it all again. WE WIN

If I can remain in until the article is studied at the KH it would be fun to comment at the meeting and ask "am I the only one bothered by this? am I the only one that thinks this is a bunch of nonsense? this doesn't make sense" ... do you think if we did this at meetings others would reason? I suppose not, and it would most likely be the final opportunity to make a comment.

If you do, I hope you record it and upload it here.
