"One of the most remarkable coincidences found in nature." - NASA
"a coincidence unmatched in the solar system." - National Geographic
"it isn't even that." - Jan H
Actually, it is far more than that. For when NASA referred to "one of the most remarkable coincidences found in nature," and National Geographic referred to "a coincidence unmatched in the solar system, " they were both referring only to the fact that our sun has a diameter which is 400 times that of the moon's and a distance from the earth which is also 400 times that of the moon's.
To this "coincidence unmatched in the solar system" we must also add these additional "coincidences": "The Sun is 400 thousand times as bright as the full moon." (1998 edition of The World Almanac, page 290); "The average time between total eclipse paths crossing one location is about 400 years." (The Sun - Our Star, Robert W. Noyes, 1982, page 145); The estimated number of stars in our galaxy is "400 billion." (Carl Sagan, Cosmos, 1980, page 299 and The Demon Haunted World, 1995, page 330); The distance across our solar system, as measured from earth to Pluto, is "40 Astronomical Units (AU)," or "forty times the earth's distance" from the sun. (Astronomy Made Simple, 1996, page 8); The Bible always uses the numbers 40 and 400 to point to Jesus Christ; The Bible contains a precise chronological, historical record which tells us that exactly 4,000 years passed between God's creation of Adam and the birth of Jesus Christ; Jesus said, "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars," and that "the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky." (Luke 21:25; Matthew 24:30)
I contend that when all of these "coincidences," and more I have not yet mentioned, are added to what National Geographic has already called "a coincidence unmatched in the solar system," most people with open minds will decide to consider the possibility that what the Bible tells us is really true, Jesus Christ created our universe. (Col. 1:16)
