A cut and paste here a little snip there, demonize the opposition and slit there throats when necessary and viola! The NT just the way we like it.

If the Flood were merely a story (or a local occurance) I would suppose that Jesus would still refer to it, much as we might refer to the Good Samaritan story in order to make a very important point about being a true neighbor.

Whether there was an actual good Samaritan or not is kind of besides the point - it's the story that resonates. Just because Jesus made reference to the Flood does not in itself make the Flood a historical occurance, nor does it make it global. Could the Flood merely be a story, which Jesus pointed to in order to make a point?

There was a large local flood and that is what the story of Noah was about and that is what Jesus spoke about.

Since the story applied to the people he was speaking to, the decendants of Noah, it wasn't necessary for Jesus ro go into a lesson of geography and history and physics, he made his point and his point got across.

Explain how you can believe that Jesus is God and at the same time God could: a.) deliberately tell a lie about Noah's Flood b.) not know that the story was a lie c.) knew that the story was a lie and deliberately deceived his listeners with the story anyway.

I don't get it.

In another thread, Perry uses a scene from the film "The Last of the Mohicans" to illustrate (however weakly) his point on Jesus' death.

However, he also says that anyone who suggests that Jesus used the story of Noah & the flood as an illustration, rather than referring to it as literal history, is calling Jesus a liar?

Jesus and the flood, as per Luke:

26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

As per Matthew:

36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, a but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man

As we can see, Jesus is using the Flood story as an example of people NOT knowing when the end will come, a warning for those that try to find out when it will happen.

Jesus does NOT mention a GLOBAL flood, Jesus simple mentions that all the people that were around Noah, all of them died.

Now, one MAY argue that ALL the people meant all the people of the world, but that would be putting words in "Jesus mouth", if Jesus wanted to say the world, he woudl have.

What we have here is Jesus showing that, while Noah built his ark, the people in his area went about their business up untill the very end.
