Hey syl, i read that. Yep, said he would make everything new, not that he would fix what was already here.
Making everything new will be fixing what is already here - Restitution/Restoration, as it were. Acts 3:19-21.

As for the rest -- If you by "attack" mean they make a rational argument against certain statements made by certain christians then yah, but i call that "open discussion".
I think you're talking about you, Bohm :) But there are 'atheists' who do attack and call theists stupid or warped for believing in God and the things he is credited as having done. Enough that anyone who then presents a rational argument for why He didn't do this or that even though it is written are mocked for their 'mental gymnastics.' (okay, now I'm talking about me :)
But the fact remains, there isn't always a rational argument - on either side. Sometimes its just a 'you're dumb for being so superstitious, and naive for being led by other stupid people' OR 'you just hate God and doing good to other people because you're an atheist'. Or something similar - and with a lot of anger.
Then you get the people who don't think either of those things, and when they're talking to one another, and remembering all the times those things have been said to them... well, they bring that baggage to the current conversation ;)

WOW.... JUST WOW!!!!!!!!
changed languages of humans to cause confusion - to protect them from themselves
dislocated jacob's hip for...fun? - to humble him?
hardned pharoh's heart in order to kill an army - to show him who is boss

forced adult men to mutilate thier penises - to circumcise the foreskin of their penises as sign of His covenant with them
forced subjucation of women - made provisions to benefit women who were already subjugated
forced women to marry their rapists - because no other man would have wanted them
showed no tolerance for disable and deformed persons by refusing them entry to priesthood - to point forward to His unblemished High Priest
Ordered killing of children, women - to rid the land of future corruption
Allowed slavery - for economic reasons, not racial
allowed murder of slaves as long as they suffered for a day or two before they died - for economic reasons, not racial
killed children for minor offenses such as making fun of man because he was bald - to teach those blisters a much-needed lesson

said he would return, had his inspired word predict quick return, 2000+ years later, still out for coffee - actually, He gave a parable to show that He would be gone for quite some time. We have a habit of hearing only what we want to hear

Nope. According to the bible it was to keep them from reaching the heavens, to protect them from US.
dislocated jacob's hip for...fun? - to humble him?
God must be the worst psychologist ever. Using violence only teached violence.God fails.
killed caananites for no other reason that living in the land god wanted them to have - to purge the land of their corruption
Hmmm.... Bible doesn't say that.
forced adult men to mutilate thier penises - to circumcise the foreskin of their penises as sign of His covenant with them
A sign to WHO? It's not like men went around greeting each other with a dick inspection. Why couldn't a simple tattoo or certain style of dress do? Seem like a dick(reducing) move to me. God fails at figuring that out.
forced subjucation of women - made provisions to benefit women who were already subjugated
Oh, sorry, provions for women existed long before the law. the law was supposed to be perfect and better, not "roughly the same" as the surrounding nations. God fails.
forced women to marry their rapists - because no other man would have wanted them
That's not true today and there is no way to know of that was true then since they had to marry the rapist. Besides which, rape is a crime of anger, not desire. God fails at womens right and basic psychology.
showed no tolerance for disable and deformed persons by refusing them entry to priesthood - to point forward to His unblemished High Priest
Ah, so god was only intolerant of VISIBLE imperfection, god was shallow, like Paris Hilton. Good to know god had the same depth of character as that shallow vacuous skank whore.
Allowed slavery - for economic reasons, not racial
God, just like the churches, were more about money. God fails at providing for his people and showing love.
allowed murder of slaves as long as they suffered for a day or two before they died - for economic reasons, not racial
so if they suffered for a few days the Hebrews made some kind of profit? God really IS A dick to allow people to suffer a day or so for money.
killed children for minor offenses such as making fun of man because he was bald - to teach those blisters a much-needed lesson
Yeah, apparently that God's messengers are butthurt pussies that can't take a joke.
condoned allowed human sacrifice - of His one and only Son
Oh, sorry, I was talking about Jephthah's daughter. You HAVE read the bible, right?
contradictory and confused written message - only to those lacking in faith
Or those that actually read the bible and don't think it's ok for god to let slaves suffer for a day or two before they die for a financial reason.
After condemning man to death for the actions of one, decided torting and letting is son be murdered instead would be better than forgiveness - to show just how depraved Man really is!
Sorry, God was the one that supposedly decided how this would happen. He wrote the script, therefore he is the depraved one.
allowed children to be killed by Herod in Jesus' stead - to show just how depraved Man really is!
not Man, Herod. God knew it would happen and felt it was acceptable collateral damage. He put the ball in motion knowing all the actions.
said he would return, had his inspired word predict quick return, 2000+ years later, still out for coffee - actually, He gave a parable to show that He would be gone for quite some time. We have a habit of hearing only what we want to hear
You are a perfect shining example of ignoring the obvious to see only what you want to, Syl :)
However, we are the clay, God the Potter. He can and does do with us as He sees fit.
I'm not sure I agree with this concept; but even if his being the creator gives him the "right" to allow us to suffer, it sure as hell doesn't mean he's not cruel when he does it....
Poopsie, you're so funny :)
love you tec

Ah, well, therein lies the problem. Restoring something is the exact opposite of creating something new. Besides which, that particular scripture speaks of restoring the things that the prophets of old spoke about, such as the Law. I can only imagine that as a woman, you would be looking forward to subjugation, having to marry your rapist and possibly being sold as human cattle.
