If a man who happened to be Amish terrorized my neighborhood and murdered a lot of people, I wouldn't object to an Amish church being built in that area.

However, if a group of Amish terrorists terrorized my neighborhood and murdered a lot of people BECAUSE they were a part of a widespread effort of fanantical Amish who were trying to force their religion on us and kill at random people who didn't submit, YOU BET I'd object to an Amish church going up in that same neighborhood where all those people had been slaughtered.

Why? Because I'm not going to be intimidated and allow people to cow us into submission.

Imagine we're living in the time of WW2. What would people do if a Shinto Shrine gets built a block away from Pearl Harbor. There would be protests and anger etc. And if it gets built it definitely without question be vandalized and eventually burnt down.

The same applies to ground zero. Its not appropriate for any Islam related to be built there. There are hundreds of places they can build it. But they want it there even with the incredible amount of objection. They are doing it to spit in the face of the American people and you can be sure of it that the vandalism will take place if it gets build, during the construction and after. And I'm sure that the NYC firefighters won't be in any rush to help out if anything happens.

As a free society, they should be allowed to put a Mosque where ever they want to but on the other hand I think that the American Muslims have to be sensitive to this issue and not push the it.

Do you not see the difference in a country attacking another country, as opposed to a small handful of radicals??

@beksbks I worked with a number of muslims over the years. They are nice friendly people. But one day I had some guy talking to me at work calling the Taliban.. "freedom fighters" And you're right. There are only a small number of radicals. But they have a huge fanbase. You might not be a player of a certain sport, but that doesn't mean you can't be a fan of it.

Right, and this is America. You can think, believe, speak what you want to. That's why we are different, or supposed to be.

If a community of Muslims considered it a desecration to allow a Christian church to be built at the site of a slaughter of Muslims carried out during the Crusades, I would certainly understand that. Why? Because all Christians favor killing Muslims? No, but one of the expressed motivations for the Crusades was to convert Muslims to Catholicism by force and to kill those who resisted. To force people of that community to have a Christian church erected on that site would reasonably be viewed as an effort to carry out the goals of the killers.

How is the principle any different when the situation is reversed?

""Soooo white people shouldn't be allowed to build a Baptist Church in Africa, right? I mean, since the typical slave owner was a white Christian, that'd follow similar logic, right?""

the importation of slaves was largly an jewish enterprize
