It's basically free choice... since we all have a piece of the Creator within us, we're all co-creators. We make up our reality as we go along. We do this individually and/or collectively as a race. Human consciousness is being allowed to chart its own course. We could have opted for Armageddon, but thankfully cooler heads prevailed.
From what I understand, not all planets have free will, but the Earth does and that makes it very important in the evolution of the galaxy. It's one reason why we shouldn't place too much emphasis on prophecies, especially the negative ones, because we CAN override them.

Do some Christians throw out 'Free Will' when they assert that homosexuality is a choice?

I guess you can choose to engage in homosexuality by choice. But I dont think any Christian would say it was their choice.

Are you by any chance watching an old movie on Turner classics?
With Bette Davis? ( Now, Voyager). They were just talking about "free will".

Free Will is always bound by the laws of physics, biology and ultimately in many cases genetics.

Thanks, LWT. For the sake of this debate, I had in mind open absolute free will. But really I was looking for a more simplistic sense than the philosophical determinism/indeterminism arguments. In fact, I came into this reflecting on that line from my public talk: "God doesn't force us to do anything." That, in it's simplicity, is erroneous to me.
I'll leave the philosophical discussion of free will/predestination to those who believe in god. I'm going for the low-hanging fruit.
"who told you life is fair?"
Paul, this debate has nothing to do with fairness. It has to do with a contradicton and misapplication of terms, IMO. Rephrasing that, I don't see how you can apply the word "freedom" to a choice in which one of the two options is a death sentence if the subject is aware of that punishment and he truly believes in those options. That would be coercion, would it not?
Would you say the mugger in my earlier illustration was really giving me freedom of choice?

Bette Davis said it to her domineering mother that was trying to control her.Bette Davis told her mother that she now had "Free Will" and then explained that Free Will was the freedom to make your own choices. She was telling her mother she no longer had to do as her mother wanted her to do.
I love Bette Davis movies..

Free Will is often presented in black and white terms, when it is not so simple. NO one has free will. We are all bound by cultural and physical restraints. We have little control over who we are. The way we turn out is based on a mix of genes that we did not choose and upbringing by parents and environment that we have little control over as well.
The concept that a persons eternal life is based on their actions over a short physical life time indicates a belief that we are somewhat set in stone to be either good or bad, yet at any point in time we can change dramatically. For example, people with brain damage from an accident can change personalities overnight, such as changing to be more aggressive. There was no free will leading to that change, yet from a Christian point of view they may no longer be deserving of eternal life.
