They believe we reject the Christian faith on emotional or psychological grounds.
I get that a bunch here.

I did hate God for allowing me to be lured into the JW cult at my weakest point. Later, I found out there was no way there was any "God" involved in the Bible, but most Christians assume it's just left over bitterness and not examination and reasoning on evidence.

Well, let me tell you brothers- there is so much evidence of man's creation of the Bible and so much evidence of the OT God being a murderous tyrant, and so much inconsistency in the entire Bible, particularly the NT.

And there is absolutely no evidence of God's existence. If anything other than rational dismissal, I would lean toward believing in multiple gods. If you all are so sure that a God must exist, then it would make more sense that there are scores of them.

Agree with Loftus'ussess premise. I've heard people claim that they were once atheist, now christian, and almost to a person they describe their atheism as springing from "anger at god".

They seem to be cornfused people with an inability to put aside or sublimate their base emotions when (attempting) reasoning.

That smarmy douche C.S. Lewis is of this ilk, and shall not be welcome in my kingdom.

Haha... we shoudl go ahead and make that a stereotype: if all christians who deconvert become Angry Atheists then all atheists who convert become Smarmy Christians.

Some atheists are angry. Some are not. I know both now that I've joined this site. I don't think an atheist is angry at God - that doesn't make any sense. But I do find that those atheists who are angry, are angry at believers - on any or all matters of faith and/or religion. Just on general principal.

Regarding the chart on the previous page about the middle ages, they was not that dark: http://listverse.com/2007/09/22/top-10-inventions-of-the-middle-ages/

I was going to post something along those lines, but I figured, "why bother?" This "Christian Dark Ages" narrative does not fit with what actually occurred.

Im just thinking out loud. But who say the dark ages was particular religious compared to the preceeding ages?

Indeed, and why aren't there Chinese or Indian colonies orbiting Alpha Centauri? Their history had no Christianity.

This chart is useless for anything but trolling.

I had to laugh at it on several levels -

First, notice that there is no grade system on the vertical axis - so, it is just colored boxes that could mean anything.

Second, notice that it presents the Roman empire as making greater "scientific advancement" than the Greeks!

Third, as mentioned before - it remarkably leaves the middle ages completely flat for scientific development. It also ignores eastern culture, or the Aztec astronomy and calender, exploration of the world, and so on.

It is simply a silly proof of someones disdain for Christianity in particular and western culture in general.
