I was an elder, I was not allowed to just stop attending meetings. I was hounded out of the congregation, disfellowshipped and shunned, YES shunned.

hey Spade, why don't you make like a tree...
....and get outta here!!!
Seriously, why don't you go clean the Kingdom Hall toilets or some other sacred service.
*Sigh* Someone's got their nose out of joint...
...If you're that anal about who uses the forum and who doesn't, you should probably start your own so you can make your own rules. If hearing a conflicting viewpoint is painful to you and you thus go into a frenzy sending PMs in an effort to protect the “flock” … keep doing that. If you think you're going to make your emotional problems my problem, I'm sorry to disappoint you as it's not going to happen. Seriously, why don't you grow some backbone and quit being a wuss.

Spade, a person who leaves may decide to take the additional step of formalising their departure by writing a letter of disassociation. Just as one would if one was to resign from a Lions club or sports club. Their formal resignation would mean that whatever choice they made from that point (buying a lottery ticket, wishing someone a happy birthday, having a Christmas tree in their house) would not result in a trial by their church elders. They would no longer be under their religion's judicial system. They would not have to go through their life looking over their shoulder. It would indicate the exercise of free choice.
That person may still believe in the Bible and God. Why would a religion choose to direct that no one ever speak to them again for just resigning? Doesn't that suggest the behavior of a cult, which wishes to punish anyone who leaves, and therefore deter anyone else from resigning?

EE, I lean the same way. I think Spade may just be a born-in unbaptized publisher that knows a little about JWs, but hasn't lived the life. Why else would "she" post on an apostate forum anyway? And her posts make it clear that she doesn't know what being a JW is all about.
But I'll say one thing for her...she can cut and paste like a mother!

All you have to do to dissent from Jehovah's Organization is quit attending meetings. Over 50% of my family are Jehovah's Witnesses and no one is ever shunned for ceasing meeting attendance. Some of the myths weaved by select opposers may have gotten to your mind about what happens when a person exits the organization, but these stories are just conjecture blown out of proportion.
My wife and I stopped attending and within a few months, my dad turned over personal emails I'd sent them (explaining our views in our defense when questioned why weren't taking our kids to meetings). He gave them to the other elders so they would investigate our views.
I ignored the elders' phone calls for a few months and then one fine summer day I opened the door to what I thought was an old friend. Turned out it was two elders as an "investigating team" and on that visit, after 5 minutes, one of the elders said that we had THREE OPTIONS:
- Start a study/come back to meetings
- DA ourselves
- Meet with JC and get DF'd
Those are his words, no exaggeration.
Normally, I hate to see angry words against you Spade, but now I realize you aren't just another victim. I don't pity you at all. I think you're part of a plague of people who willingly spread counterknowledge. I've edited out the rest of what I'd like to say.

oh Spade for a minute there I thought you were a JW but your obviously are not. Shunning happens. If you choose not to identify yourself as a JW you are shunned. This is not overbown hysteria it is a sad everyday occurance.
Denying it happens to others is either ignorance or lying neither makes you look too good. No wonder you are such an endless source of amusement
I just hope we aren't taunting someone with mental problems.

Spade/AliceInWonderLand is Nuts..She has no grasp of life as a JW..
She once argued about a WBT$ Pedophile lawsuit, here on JWN,with the lawyer who actually handled the case..LOL!!..
What would the Lawyer know?..Alice is a Genius!..
I don`t think Kim knew she was talking to a crazy person at first..
But..
I`m sure she figured it out after the first few posts Alice wrote to her..
Mary and I still laugh about that..LOL!!..
