Do we still estimate that only about 50% of JW kids actually stay in the organization?

Pushing them to get baptized at the assemblies this summer already - ugh! I feel so sorry for the kids.
It's serious pressure, I remember it vividly.

Talking with a former JW yesterday, he talked about getting involved in heavy petting and things disapproved by WTS as a teen. Let's face it- normal postpubescent teens experiment with things of a sexual nature, get a desire to see what some drugs (at least alcohol) are like, want to fit in with their peers, consider higher education as a means to a better financial future, and many become interested in sports and/or video games and/or music. It's what humans do as they grow.
The average teen will lose interest in even a mundane religion. Certainly, they will lose interest in the extremes of JW's. The only hope for WTS to retain them is to get them to the alter. Once they have been dunked, it's a different pressure on them to stay or at least come back to the religion after bouts with "worldly" temptations.
It totally disgusts me. I was an adult convert, but with childhood training from a JW mother. As an elder, I never pushed for youngsters to be dunked. I fell into that category that truly believed "It's the most step in your life, more important than even marriage." You wait on marriage until you are a responsible adult. Surely you should wait on baptism the same way.

I read the articles and now I'm just angry. I was baptized at 10 (though my dad had initially encouraged me to wait). If the WT had a policy to only baptize mature adults, I might still be able to talk to my parents.
Too bad they mention Jesus but forget that the Bible claims he didn't get baptized until he was 30.

Interesting that you made a point to say mature adults. The Watchtower's youth agenda many times has a stunting effect. Even years after they come of age they act much like a child. I know I did and still do to an extent. I got baptized when I was 19 and I might as well have been 10 like you, I had no idea what I was doing and everyone has their two cents on my dedication to God.

Only a joke. When have the WTS followed the Bible? The scripture in Acts clearly shows that 'men and women' were baptised.
The WTS quotes the Bible if the text supports their doctrine, otherwise, as in this case it simply ignores it.
Didn't mean to upset you fellow.

" But there is danger in encouraging them to take up a life style centered on education and financial security instead of true worship ???????"
By using the word Life Style gives the impression that having an education and financial security, is equal too living a Debauched life
And by using the word instead of true worship, suggests that you can't have God in your life, be educated and financially secure at the same time
the word instead clearly shows that the WTS wants you to choose between the two,
yes, furthering your education is a clear and present danger to the org. They are scared you will wake up in the process of becoming educated

It is interesting there is a push to up the age for a driving license from 16 to 18 here in the US. Even the so called world see that young people are not ready for this kind of responsibility. But the so called most important decision in your life can be made at such a young age. Their brains are not even fully developed yet. Science has just discovered that our brains are not fully developed until for some in our mid 20's. This subject is one of the reason that help my eye's to open up to this cult. Their statement we don't baptize babies in many ways they do. Sick, Sick, Sick. Totally ADD

The article clearly is pushing the acceptable age limit lower. A glowing experience regarding a man who was baptised at 12 is given and it quotes Jesus as being in the temple at 12 years old. It criticises parents who feel that their child shouldn't get baptised. And the child illustrated is about 4 foot tall - has got to be about 11 / 12.
The irony is that the WTBTS criticises other churches for allowing children to be baptised as young:

When I was 12 years old, Mother decided that I should get baptized as a member of the Presbyterian Church. I vividly remember the day of my baptism. Two babies, each held by its mother, were baptized at the same time that I was. I felt terribly humiliated to be baptized along with babies. The minister sprinkled a few drops of water on my head and murmured some words that I did not understand. Really, those two babies knew as much about baptism as I did!

George. Ah, I see! No. I wasn't upset........just didn't get the nuance is all.
I am upset however, by the way the WTB$ ask the questions for craptism and one of them is about being craptized into the 'spirit directed ORGANIZATION'!
I don't know why I couldn't see it when I was 'in'. Proof that it's just a business rather than a genuine religion!
