    Hi Dan,

Like others said, you seem like a nice person so the majority will welcome you here even if you are an active JW.

Remember, apostates are FAR more welcoming towards JWs than the other way around and that's a fact. And no, contrary to what the Crooklyn Dodgers say, we don't plan to devour you or "lead you astray". If a JW is respectful towards me on a personal level I have no problem being cordial in return. It's just being human.

Welcome, Dan Edmund! My Dad is an MS but alas, he has dementia and can no longer meet the expectation levels of this performance based organization. I am now looking after him.

I never joined for many reasons, subjugation of women as well as the blood policy and my ever increasing disagreement with the Watchtower's interpretation of scripture as well as their going well beyond the Bible being some of my top ones.

I am not into patriarchial based belief systems due to their unbalanced and disharmonious natures.

    Welcome Dan.

It is good to meet you.

BTW, do you know Don Maclean?

    Is he still alive?

My parents were once Witnesses but left during the late 1980's I have read a lot, and still read a lot of literature, historical and religious. I have even read books about paranormal research. I used to be a high school teacher, with majors in history and library studies. I have a book up for sale which is available at most eBook retailers, including Barnes and Noble, the iBookstore and Smashwords. It is called Paradise World, and yes its setting is Christ's Millennium, but it is not from a dotrinal perspective. In fact, far from it, particularly through the middle to end sections. In case anybody is interested the site is at www.smashwords.com/books/view/38930 where there is a large sample of the book. I also have my own website at www.paradiseworld-thenovel.com
This is not book written just for Jehovah's Witnesses, but for the general public also.

    OK.

Hello Dan, I have to warn you that this site is for ex-jws and "apostates". Most of us are inactive, disfellowshipped, or disassociated. A few of us are active for the purpose of not loosing our family members. No one on this site believes the teachings of the Watchtower, nor do any of us have the desire to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

I know this has been addressed generally but I have two very specific nits to pick here. I have bolded them. The bolded statements are completely false.

This site is FOR discussing whatever the people who come here WANT TO discuss, relating to Jehovah's Witnesses and otherwise.

MANY on this site believe the teachings of the Watchtower. Some believe them fully. Some believe them partially. Some strongly desire to be Jehovah's Witnesses.

Are there opinionated and loud apostates here? Yes. Are the majority of people here OUT of the Watchtower? Yes. Are active JWs unwelcome? Absolutely NOT. Active JWs are MORE THAN welcome.

Mad you are correct in your nits.

I was thinking that PP was actually being kind. It seems to me that it would be a bit cruel to let someone assume that they are on a pro JW site. Not only might they feel foolish, they might feel guilty. I think PP was right to point out that in general folks here at the very least doubting and at the very most, openly hostile toward the organization.

Welcome Dan - Will enjoy reading your book. The poster for it beautiful - is it representative of the countryside in the Phillipines? Hills seemed too steep to me for that - but I loved it.

It is true many of us here have left the WTS including myself but I still love God with all my heart and try diligently to devote my energies and life to His service. There were many memories from my WTS days that I still treasure as well - things are never all black and white. I can imagine the field service there that you described. And it would indeed be a joy. I think that is why many become missionaries and go to foreign lands - to find humble people still living the simple life - they are much more receptive to learning what the Bible contains then those of us with so much technology and diversion.

One of my favorite field service partners came from the Philippines herself right after World War II - they suffered terribly from that war and she often told me about their customs and ways. You are right, they are a very hospitable and warm people. We have a congregation serving that language group right in my neighborhood - one of four that meet there. Many years later she did missionary service in Peru and it was equally joyful there.
