Hi Dan, I am from Sydney and married to a Filipina. When I stopped following the Watchtower I was fortunate that my wife did as well.
Last year I spent 5 weeks in Philippines. It was interesting when I met her family, since none of them shunned me, unlike Australian relatives. Her family were 3 generation JWs, but many have now left and become a whole range of religions, so now they are Jw, Catholic, Inglesi de Critso, Mormon etc. It highlighted to me how illogical it is for any religion to claim they alone are truth and the divisions that go along with that concept.

It's true. My wife is originally from the Philippines. They do not practive shunning as it is required by the WT. The Filipinos will refrain from talking about spiritual matters with an individual that is df'd, but they will not shun.

Welcome! I traveled to Cebu and Leyte in 1998 and yes, the people were very friendly. I visited a village in the jungles of Leyte (not far from where Macarthur landed to begin the assualt on the Japanese) and the village matriarch told me I was proably the first white man to set foot in their village since WW2- no electricity or running water. We are an eclectic group here who love to discuss God and I learn something new every week here.
and the idea of living in a paradise.
Intersting comment Dan. The WT tries to convey the idea that living is Paradise is a sure promise from God. Perhaps you have other ideas about what God wants to do for humans? Please enlighten us- I have never heard of an active JW before, who wrote his own religious book.
