A number of factors-including past religious beliefs or even mental or emotional imbalance-might cause some to assume mistakenly that they have the heavenly calling.
So what does this say about the young, fairly new Circuit Overseer who is apparently among the anointed? Maybe he should have kept his head down?

Well, this is a happifying development.....
I don't know what the current numbers are for the annointed-have they published that since the memorial?
Let me see...... the annointed are chosen by God to govern the earth, and are to be higher than the angels, but, apparently, some mentally deranged people think they are annointed, but no one knows who is really annointed, nor how many there are on earth, even though they do publish the numbers, and they take the lead in the preaching work, but we don't know for sure if they are mentally deranged or just have a happifying "pioneer spirit." Plus, even though they may be mentally deranged (or not), they take the lead in the teaching work.
Do I have this all straight?
So, if someone is a pioneer and or an elder and professes to be of the annointed, people must be very wary.....

How does someone decide they are anointed? My g-gf believed it but everyone his age believed they were anointed. People were waiting for them to all die so A. would come.
It reminds me of the concept of the elect and predestination in certain Protestant religions. So much has to do with temperament, personality, and self-esteem. It seems very arrogant to me but that just reflects my background.

Personally - I think people are mentally imbalanced in claiming to be sheep as well. I think claiming to even BE a Jehovah's Witness causes a person to become mentally imbalanced. I think it's as crazy a notion that the earth will become a paradise as it is some claiming they'll go to heaven and rule as Kings ! I mean, come on - looking at it realistically it's ALL crazy ! Actually, I think a person who gets the idea that they have the "heavenly calling" is the sane one. People who think their carbon-based biological bodies can live eternally are the ones who are really wacked.
Hmmmmmm . . . Really?
Since the mapping of the human genome, biological science is even more agreeable than ever that "carbon based biological bodies" have the potential for a hugely extended, even an eternal life span . . . ie; it's biologically possible.
On the other hand, I think little scientific progress has been made in the search for "heaven".
As Flipper said however, to fully believe in the possibility of either, in the context the WT society places it, is fairy tale stuff. It takes a fair degree of mind-bending to believe in either. But of course mind-bending is the WT's specialist area of expertise. Getting brain-wacked is a pre-requisite for entry into the WT school of impossibilities.

Some scientists (usually only scientific journalists that have no clue what they're talking about and some scientists speaking outside their field) have this theory, the same ones the WTBTS likes to quote frequently.
Most other scientists that actually study the biochemistry are not so sure (they won't rule it out) since the problem is that when you start messing around with the telomerase levels you start inducing cancerous growths as well. IMHO nature has a way of limiting life for good reason (overpopulation being one of them). There may be ways to extend life but near the end the nuclear-level of our cells will start breaking down, the sun will eventually die and the universe will reach it's thermodynamic equilibrium. Either way, we're going to be dead.
