As for the loud snoring, I'd suggest a sleep study to find out if he has sleep apnea. A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine can help immensely, giving both of you the peaceful nights' sleep you need.

Snowy, I think the separate living quarters is such a good idea, and always have.
I'm happy for you, it sounds like you are both learning the art of compromise, which is essential for happy relationship, be it friends, family, or lovers/partners.
