Religion, and it's horrible hold on minds and intellect just sickens me. Just makes me want to puke to see otherwise capable people believing in heaven, hell, Jesus, God, Allah, Mohammad without so much as a single bit of science and fact to back it up.

Well that rings my bell too I have to say . . .

Religion is nothing less than the greatest intellectual scourge ever visited on humankind. It has produced nothing of value . . . ever, that couldn't be attained more easily and comprehensively in it's absence.

The greatest dissappointment comes from realising that it binds otherwise healthy minds. Embracing irrational and unprovable religious beliefs closes the mind to conflicting possibilities and stifles freedom of the mind to explore.

Minds that otherwise liberated to could accomplish so much more for the collective benefit of all, suddenly lose a large part of the need to question and uncover the unknown in favour of preserving a weak substitute, constructed largely to relieve the personal discomfort living with the unknown creates. This same discomfort provides the impetus for discovery and lies at the root of our curiosity . . . religion effectively short-circuits that wonderful capacity. It's simply a vast waste of the collective intellectual resource.

OK . . . there's no mutual exclusivity between religion and science in the complete sense . . . but the persistent prevalence of superstitious religious belief is still a powerful retardant . . . even in the search for God.

I disagree sizemik. I love the Jewish Religion of the Bible. I love it! I love Moses. I love Daniel. I love Deborah.... I hate false religion because lies confuse me. But the Hebrews! I am glad they shared!

    I disagree sizemik.

    Please do . . .

Intellectual retardation through religious superstition is a choice many make. I'm not on a campaign to banish it as if that were possible. I'm simply voicing my personal dissappointment at the persistent presence of a counter-productive scourge. I fully expect it to remain incurable.

I love the Jewish Religion of the Bible. I love it!

Even the genocide, kidnapping, forced marriage, slavery and cold blooded slaughter of babies by the thousands? Really?

OK you are forcing me to state the obvious. (MY) God knows what the future will be. You judge the Jews for those things the Bible says they did (What Hebrew kidnapped? I don't remember). And I surely would have to say the "cold blooded" comment is cold blooded. How does your tini tiny brain know if the Jews did not obey (not cold heartedly I am sure) in doing those terrible things they believed they had to do which in no way surpasses the good they conbtibuted, but anyway, that the world might not be here right now? Do you understand the question?

I must say, one of the benefits of being raised "in the truth" is that we were taught to view all other religions with a critical eye. The false beliefs, superstion and hypocrisy of religion was constantly exposed.

But there was just that one religion where you would never even THINK to apply those same critical thinking skills!

In the end, when I figured out how untrue the truth was, it made it easy to cut the whole mess loose.

And, by the way, where did all the wonderful imagination and quick wit come from? Are you POSSITIVELY sure that without the executing of judgement that they did that we would still have the progress in all the whatever they're called, (like comedy) that we HAVE? Science and every other wonderful thing? OK? Prove it!

Best thing about the story is, the kids they're bitching about probably see things a lot more clearly than their dumbass parents. One could only hope...;)
