psac: What happends to your momentum when you die? what happends to your charge? why is the question any more meaningfull when we talk about the conserved quantity "energy"?

That which has a beginning, has an end.

Metaphysics and onotology can be fascinating though...

Right on Twitch - All Things Must Pass as George put it. But is our birth (or moment of conception) our beginning? Or is that the beginning of the vehicle for our physical existence here on earth?

Anyhow, I for one am fascinated with metaphysics and ontology and relish in the inconclusiveness and wondrous nature of the question. Not even sure I consider myself a 'Christian' although there are aspects of Jesus' life and sayings I strongly identify with.

I was just curious as to what Jeff, a former JW, thought happened to our energy when we die.

Seems like he agrees with the WT ( in a way) that the body dies and energy returns to the universe.

    PSac:

    energy returns to the universe

I don't really think that's the WT's stance. I thought they believe the body is DEAD, totally DEAD as a doornail (if even that is dead?!)

What I think they really miss is what Jesus himself said as he expired which was "Into your hands I entrust my spirit" - will have to find the exact verse - Luke 23:46; Stephen said the exact same thing as he was being stoned - Acts 7:59. In today's parlance, that probably means the universe...

Are you talking about energy in the sence it is used in science, or in a different sence?

That book was written by another man, long before you, who also feared death and wanted to 'make sense of it'. The superstitious are driven by that fear to find an answer. Problem is: All the answers are made up answers to satisfy the fear, and not to satisfy reality.

I don't mean to be contentious, but I try and I try to search for that fear of death in myself (because people like you tell me that fear is the main basis of my belief), but I cannot find it.

I am not afraid of death. Not in the least. Therefore, fear does not motivate my search or faith. Love does though.

    Peace,

I don't know if that's the current WT teaching but even if so, it's not exclusive to the WT.

If that bears any weight to the discussion or normalizes the bias.

    Tammy - Amen.

Only thing I would add, in my case, is that I am afraid of death - moreso for those left behind than for myself. But my child is a living part of me once I am gone in any event.

Yes, MJNM, I also agree with you. I am also afraid for the mourning and loss that my loved ones (children in particular) would have to feel if I died.

I am not afraid of my own mortality though. That is what I take the thought (afraid of death) to mean.

    Peace,

    Tammy
