No other species searches beyond itself as we do and it is amazing that our bigger brain and how it is hardwired, does that.

Sometimes our brains can re-hardwire themselves, too.

Sometimes it results in wibble wibble brain-crash.

I hate it when that happens.

Very true JW, our brains have the ability to re-wire themselves, evolve if you will, to meed imposed demands.

Thhey did a study where they took 2 groups and oen group shot baskest with a ball and oen shot baskets without the ball, one group played piano and the other group played the same notes but NOT ona piano and they noticed that the same areas of the brain were active and that the brain was creating neuropathways in the same way in all the groups.

That is something that can't be argued by either camp. So let's not go there.

thetrueone has the best answer, but it doesn't take in account how reproduction reached the end of evolution. Is there a technical name for a function that has made evolution proud? No, not like that. Is there a technical term for a system that starts working after evolution has sparked it? We're talking about genomes.

The same effect is being used to communicate with some people who appear to be totally unconcious after a head trauma or other incident - a so called "vegetative state"

Doctors are able to ask an individual to imagine performing certain actions while looking at pictures of their brain with an EEG. By doing so a number of casualties have been shown to be very much conscious and able to communicate their wishes even though there are no visible signs of consciousness at all.

For example, telling a patient to imagine moving their right hand for yes or their left foot for no they can clearly hear and make decisions. Amazing progress.
