My message to the Governing Body - The Results of the 2011 Global Survey

My goodness cedars that must have taken a lot of work. Drawing up a survey and interpreting the results is much more complicated than it may appear, and there are tons of lengthy technical books devoted to the subject - I know because I've sold lots of them not because I have read a great deal. I admire your diligence.

It would be good to boost the number of active Witnesses who participate. Maybe we can brainstorm ways to accomplish that. Youtube seems an obvious idea since Witnesses seem pretty active on there. Maybe Tuesday could come up with something if he is still around.

I have pimped it around some facebook groups.

Thanks slimboyfat, yes it did take ages, but at least it's done now to a reasonable standard, and I can focus on getting the new survey some much-needed publicity.

I've already been thinking along the lines of making a YouTube "infomercial" to raise awareness. I'm no Speilberg, but I have a little bit of artistic know-how. I was thinking of putting together a video montage of people saying "I have a voice" (or holding a sign with the slogan up, if they are afraid of speaking) to a decent soundtrack. I was thinking either something punchy and dynamic, such as Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower", or something less intimidating such as a Neil Finn song I love that seems to hit the nail on the head.

Anyway, if you or anyone else want to contribute such a video (and it only needs to be 3 to 5 seconds long) you can email it to me at [email protected] - I would greatly appreciate it.

    cantleave - thanks, you're a star!

CEDARS: Oh, please DO NOT USE Hendrix' "All Along the Watchtower" that song has NOTHING to do with the WTBTS. Please DO NOT ruin it for so many by associating it with that.

Do a quick survey of 20 somethings to find out what they're listening to and pick something contemporary and appropriate.

It's not current, but REM's "Losing My Religion" comes to mind.

Can you use a kingdom song? How about "On Jehovah we must wait" (and wait and a wait and wait). I don't even know if that made it into the new book, but it always struck me as almost mocking in tone of 'faithful Witnesses' who wait and wait and wait on Jehovah for nothing ever to happen.

    CEDARS:

What if everything you ever believed was all a lie ...

What if you woke up tomorrow and everything you had thought was true was a deception? A deception formed by people that stood to profit from your ignorance. Not just on one small area but every facet of your existence. Would you want to know? Or, would you be content with the life you had before you discovered the truth? Could you close your eyes and act as if nothing ever happened? What if you could see the ways that you have been deceived and the way that those that came before you were made to believe a lie? How valuable would the truth become? Would it make you change your habits? your routines? the way you talk or think or speak? Would it impact you or would you brush it off and carry on with business as usual? - The Truth Will Set You Free

If you use a Kingdom Song you'll get Bethel's attention for sure ... as they slap you with a copyright infringement suit.

If you can take the heat it'll have the desired affect!

I'd recommend "Make the Truth Your Own". Not sure if DNCall would approve, but he'd appreciate the irony. (He wrote it.)

I'll ask him at dinner tonight!

00DAD - LOL, I didn't realize you had such strong feelings against Hendrix! And yes, I knew it wasn't to do with the Watchtower!

How about this Neil Finn song? Apologies if I can't be bothered checking how to correctly post YouTube videos:

I love the lyric "we've learned to take abuse from devils we don't know", and of course the repeated chorus "there's nothing wrong with you". I think this will reassure people that it's perfectly normal to express doubts against the Society.

    Thoughts?
