Should we apply that rule to everyone here tal...there are a lot of people I personally think are *nice*. But if JWN was based on that...there would be no discussion whatsoever...
Would you prefer everyone to just smile and say thanks mouthy? And treat her like she has some old age disease? Or treat her like a thinking human being that we disagree with...she may be elderly...but I take it she doesn't want to be treated as senile...to me...that would be offensive....
Disagreeing with her is not disrespectful...in fact...I think it is the opposite..otherwise we are being condescending.

Talesin - I don't think trolling is nessessarily always bad - sometimes trolling is just a bit of fun - I do it all the time. I don't think mouthy was being an 'evil' troll. But certainly trying to envoke an emotional response.

yah, whatev....... I am the last person to 'have respect for elders' when they don't deserve it... but Mouthy deserves at least a modicum of respect .. SHE respects our arguments about atheism, etc., SHE does not 'shush' us when we are discussing topics that may make an old womin uncomfortable,, SHE is kind and non-judgemental,, but you go AHEAD, disrespect her.

And...you would also think the person wishing Krishna love on you could learn the truth wouldn't you tec? Your truth...listen to JESUS...so you would think they were sweet but misguided.
Actually, I would just respect them and their belief (even though I don't share it), and leave them to God; hoping that they would do the same for me.

As I tell my grandson and my grown children, showing respect is different from respecting someone. If GW Bush walked into my path, I'd be respectful to him. It wouldn't mean I respected him.
