I'm not a camper. I don't see the point in pretending you are homeless

there is nothing like waking up to the smell of nature. Listening to the sounds of nature-
and a 40ft diesel motorhome starting up
But, then your own RV won't give you the gift of hotel bedbugs-
Tent camping I only did once- axes and firewood don't work too good for me-

I never did it, but camping at Walmart was the economy stopover- I think a lot of cities have banned these gypsy RV'ers- One night at a campground ( to dump tanks and refill your water) then two or three at Walmart. Works better with a motorhome-

My last rig-- been camperless now for three years- I will have to downsize in order to afford the gas on my next one-- 8mpg doesn't cut it today--

Oh, goody!! So we won't have to deal with YOUR tushie at the primo camping sites and over-popular trails in the over-used outdoors area, at least!!
But - just so you'll understand what you're missing...
Here are a few pix from OUR camping trips... Notice our tent at the foot of those sandstone formations at Chaco Canyon...
This was the scenery outside OUR front door, on that trip...
So, does YOUR front yard look like that???
And here's our "daily commute" - MUCH better than looking at pawn shops and "Dollar" stores as one drives along...
Hee hee hee heee!!

what do you do about the rattlers and scorpions? thoough I would love to see that part of the country and may well do it my next vacation I prefer not to risk my life .

Didn't have a problem with the scorpions - nor with the rattlers, for that matter... I've seen far more rattlers in the Rocky Mountain foothills, than I've seen in the desert - at least, so far. Rattlers would be drawn to "food" - like rodents - so if one is keeping a clean campsite, there would be less enticements to draw them in...
That tent is actually set up in a "developed" campsite, believe it or not... That is, graded and 'floored' with gravel.
We keep our tent ZIPPED during the time we're not in it - and that applies ANYwhere, unless you want squirrels, rabbits, prairie dogs, foxes, mice - oh, and bears - in your tent while you're gone.
We also have a STRICT rule - NO FOOD IN THE TENT. EVER.
In the desert, we keep it in the car, or if backpacking [I haven't backpacked the desert yet...], one would have to figure out a way to hang it. Maybe from rocks, maybe from a cactus - for the desert, that is.
Another thing about scorpions - they fluoresce under "black light", and there USED to be cheapie little battery-powered "black lights" that you could carry along - sweep your tent and bedding with that before you go to bed, and you should be good to go...
We've been lucky - but we've made our own luck, too, by being VERY careful - nothing like a rattlesnake bite, a scorpion sting, a black widow's bite, or wasp/africanized bee stings, to ruin a vacation...

afraid I'm no steve Irwin , when I was younger maybe , didn't seem like anything scared me , I'd hike mountains by myself , in the adirondacks or in vermont , no trails just randomly climb . I would totally think twice about it today > LOL
