If the WTB&TS do appeal this case then it`s in the media for who knows how long ,does the society want it to be in mainstream media for any length of time .,I dont think so.

I think in California that even in settled sexual abuse cases, plaintiffs cannot be under a Gag Order. IIRC.

Hopefully the victim Candace Conti will quietly start a new life with these funds that may compensate but not remove the pain of the past. It must have taken incredible courage to stand up to such a powerful, rich organisation and prove its corrupt policies were to blame.
I hope she can tell her story to the media so that the countless others who have also suffered abuse may also take the same brave approach, however I understand if she now seeks some anonymity.
The important thing is she has proved that this organisation has maintained failed policies that foster abuse of children.
No God inspired organisation would hold such damaging policies and then spend so much money, donated by it's followers to try to cover up it's failings in legal battles and compensation.
Every Jehovah's Witness should be embarrassed by this case as the money and power that each one of them has invested in this organisation makes them a part of it's wrongdoing.

I wonder if (similar to the UNO fiasco when it hit the newspapers) when the R&F hear/read about this and maybe approach the elders with questions, it will be dumbed down or even maybe denied as just an elaborate apostate story to discredit the Society..?

Thanks harleybear. I was just a little disappointed when I realized the WTS wasn't responsible for the whole thing. I agree Candice will probably not get anything out of Kendrick but at least she's get some out of WTS. At least the WTS will get some well deserved bad publicity.

I've just finished reading the Plaintiff's Mandatory Settlement Conference Statement 4/19/12. It makes you wanna cry - that poor girl! It's also infuriating that the defendants were trying to pin her psychological problems on other aspects of her troubled family situation and her messed up life as a young adult rather than on the abuse! But the following statement made me grin from ear to ear.

III. SETTLEMENT NEGOTIATIONS.
Prior to considering any legal remedy, at the time she first reported her abuse to Jehovah's Witnesses' officials, Candace asked to have the policy of secrecy regarding the identity of known child molesters in local Congregations changed. The Witnesses have refused to amend their policy, and continue to keep secret the identity of known child molesters active in their Congregations. Until this policy is changed to allow parents, children, law enforcement, and congregation leaders be notified of known sex abusers practicing their predatory evils on unsuspecting children and families, the case is not subject to settlement.
Way to go, girl! You rock! (Your legal team too!) I can only think that this was a heckuva gamble. But it paid off!
I so hope that an appeal doesn't overturn it.

Barbara, the Plaintiff, having proven their case with the rest of the WT org. can now go after the WTBS PA in a separate action, if I understand correctly. Separating it before the WT did was probably really smart. I hope they go after the biggie and get them even more. The fact that (I THINK) AFTER the abuse happened the WT separated all the entities might well mean that the WT PA is just as culpable-not to mention since they are the holders of the money of the NY entitity, they clearly have a dog in the fight. So to speak. They just are low down sons of dogs, all round!
