Also, can one rightly observe that Jesus was hugely tolerant and benevolent toward all but religious leaders and those infested with a self-righteous religious spirit? ~~~~Fernando
Hypocrisy and telling other how they must live by force or threat seems to be the biggest issue Jesus had.
Hypocrisy is professing to believe one thing while in fact believing another. Most other sins will find hypocrisy at the root.
Greed can be dealt with by finding ways to satisfy it that don't harm others, or (if that can't be done) putting the offender away. Sloth, lust, gluttony,
and envy harm the sinner more than they do the rest of the world, and they're self-limiting.
People choose hypocrisy for many reasons: social acceptance, simple confusion, lack of conviction, lack of self-control .
But it's the one sin that seems most conquerable,
and therefore most horrible when we don't.
I think explaining to others our convictions for their consideration and reason is the way to go. Not even to say or believe that you have all the
answers but rather "here is what I have found helpful and calming to my spirit.".. maybe there is something here for you too, you're welcome to choose it or use it.
Jesus used the power of reason and common sense in dealing with others IMHO
"You can lead a horse to the lake but you can't make him water " .. nor why would you want too ? ...force is not pleasurable for the giver or receiver
Gain approval & acceptance by consideration for others and not just by what you say you believe
for these may be mere stirrings of a self-righteous force
things things of note that Jesus spoke of....
1. Hypocrisy
To be a hypocrite is to give others the impression that we are holier than we actually are. It is the same as being false, or telling a lie. Jesus pronounced a curse on hypocrites seven times in Mt. 23:13-29
2. Spiritual Pride
Spiritual pride is the most common sin to be found among those who pursue after holiness. We all know the parable of the self-righteous Pharisee who despised others even in his prayer (Lk. 18:9-14
3. Indifference To Human Need
God dwelling in their hearts (1Jn. 3:17) . Jesus spoke out strongly on such matters because He hated the attitude that many religious people had who were concerned only with religious activities but not with helping their needy brothers.
dear Tammy...
God commanded His servants to tear down pagan altars not celebrate the diversity.
Jesus concerned Himself with teaching about the spirit of the law...it wasn't about the outward man (making a good show in the flesh) it was about the inward man...like, the disciples didn't wash their hands but their hands were clean.
to crucify yourself to the world and live for Jesus involves making your mind over...with the help of the Holy Spirit you learn to detest the things that God detests...Paul said don't let your freedom be a license for vice...to lift up holy hands...put away from yourselves all filth and uncleanness...and of course once you've been washed don't go back to wallowing in the mud...
dear Fernando, are you talking about cheap grace?...something that others deride the catholic religion for...for SOME getting completely drunk with the drunkards on saturday and going to confession on sunday (at least there is a recognition of the seriousness of sin there)...the disciples were taught the deeper things of God in keeping the spirit of the law and then they were sent out by Jesus to baptize and teach others to do all things that He commanded them. Paul taught that a walk with Jesus involves a maturing...not going back again and again to the elemental things of salvation. hebrews 6:6 even states that to do so can be likened to crucifying Christ all over again. 2 cor. 7:10-11 says that godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation (180 degrees) but a superficial repentance leads to death (360 degrees). Fernando, you've got to know that shepherding the flock of God is keeping them from harm (so they can mature) not watching them wander away again and again because one of day they could be raveged by wolves. TEACHING the ways of God is not self-righteousness it is a desire to raise people up to a place where they know they are pleaseing God because they are actually trying to please God...Paul commended the corinthians because his teaching actually caused them to diligently rout the sin in their lives and zealously keep watch or examine what they do.

I just want to say jw net is a very good place and I don't know why sometimes people get so upset and threaten to leave. This really is a kind place.
Is this a farewell thread, from Tammy-pooh?
No, love :)
Though I am going on vacation in a few days. But that is just for a week. I'm not planning on going anywhere.
....................
Uhhh, well a week is better than nothing. Take Sab and the insult-generator(Shelby-Aguest with you).
Tec,
thanks thats how I feel. Change is hard, to remain civil whilst entertaining others points of view certainly enables me to take on the idea more than just deflecting the criticism, or engaging in insults of supposed lack of mental superioraty, or mental stability.
Play nice in the sandpit=- I'm trying to, thanks for being a reasonable person tec its rather inspiring luv!
God commanded His servants to tear down pagan altars not celebrate the diversity.
God commanded His people to listen to His Son.
There were plenty of altars around in Christ's day. He didn't run around tearing them down. He didn't pay them any mind one way or the other. He spoke; His sheep followed.
Paul was respectful to all people and their beliefs as well. He simply witnessed to Christ, and then let people make their own choice. Those who heard, heard. Those who did not, did not.
Jesus concerned Himself with teaching about the spirit of the law...it wasn't about the outward man (making a good show in the flesh) it was about the inward man...like, the disciples didn't wash their hands but their hands were clean.
He concerned himself with the spirit and with truth, yes. All of which is within a man. The spirit of the law is love... and summed up in the golden rule. (which can still be twisted by people who have no love)
to crucify yourself to the world and live for Jesus involves making your mind over...with the help of the Holy Spirit you learn to detest the things that God detests...
You still have to know God (done through knowing Christ) to know what He "detests".
What about this 'place' do you suppose he detests?Once again, the only 'place' one has to worry about is their own heart. The place 'within'. The inside of the cup.
Paul said don't let your freedom be a license for vice...to lift up holy hands...put away from yourselves all filth and uncleanness...and of course once you've been washed don't go back to wallowing in the mud...
What vice, Michelle?
Everything is clean to those who are clean.
When Christ walked in the flesh, he stayed with, ate with, spoke with, loved and healed... all those people who the 'righteous' had judged as being 'unclean', 'filthy', 'condemned'.
People here hurt. They have been abused... spiritually, emotionally, physically. People here are lost upon exiting the WTS. People here are searching, some for truth and Christ and God; some for meaning; some simply for a way to heal and move on with their lives. Some people have healed, and are here to help those who still need to heal, to have support, to find Christ.
Peace,
tammy

1 Timothy 2:12, "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet."

Thanks ammo...
Jay, I would LOVE to bring Sab and Shelby with me on vacation. They are both dear to me, on their own and as brother and sister in Christ. Though I would probably get a kink in my neck, since I hear Sab is well over six feet, and I am barely five, lol.
Peace and love,
tammy
We are talking about people who worshipped after different gods, NC. Paul did not condemn them or tear down their 'altars'. The altars had no meaning in any case. He simply witnessed to Christ, and the Father OF Christ. People heard, or refrained.
