No such thing as a sure bet. There are better percentages, but not a sure bet. You have to discern when to fold, when to bluff and when to go all in. You won't always be right, you definitely will raise your chances though. When you do lose you have to have the confidence that you will get it right even if you just failed.

What do I care what my headstone has on it. I won't know the difference if it has love or hate on it and neither will anyone else over time.

    Yes there is.

If I hold a royal flush and I have seen 3 kings hit the table already - there is nobody who can beat me.

& yet the other players may notice that too and see you adding more to the pot and fold leaving you with very little to show for that hand. Then next match wipe you out. Going into that match you would not have known your hand and what cards would have been played out. It was never a sure bet to begin with. You've already made a bet way before it was guaranteed.

    It's all a game.

Lol! Except for you...you are the one who was bluffing. And me having little to show for that hand is still more than anyone else at that table. Winning is winning regardless of how much it is - losing is just plain losing.

Bluffing means you have nothing and are lying to stay in the game and try to steal a pot.

Then next match wipe you out

Ah...the sucker's hope and dream - that the winner doesn't get up from the table.

    It's all a game.

Yeah...it is. And some people can play it better than others. Some people cheat too.

You completely missed that post Orphan. You decided to leave out the important portion of the quote just like the WT and bypass the matter. No matter the outcome it started off as a bet, it was never a "sure" bet. What is worst you tried to pick out what your cards would have been and what I would have done. Nice job. If only it all was that easy and you could choose all matters and outcomes, just like bible prophecy. Cherry pick just like the WT too

Bluffing has it's purpose just like folding, just like going all in and just like baiting people into the pot. Only the blind see one option.

No, I don't think I missed the point.

Choosing which table you are going to sit down at is the first critical decision for a gambler.

Choosing to stay or get up from the table is the next critical decision a gambler has to make. A good gambler knows when to leave - either because the cards aren't hitting or they have won.

A gambling addict, however, doesn't have those skills. They will stay at the table and keep playing until they have lost it all. Because a gambling addict isn't addicted to winning - they are addicted to losing.

Only the blind addict will stay at the table.

Yes, that all plays a vital role.

I guess this is why JW say not to use too many illustrations. People get hung up on them and focus on that aspect. Thanks for turning this into a gambling post and what an addict is...

All I can say is that you must have the hide of a rhino to continue living such a lifestyle and go through the motions.

I'm pretty sure that a person trained in psychology/psychiatry would have grave concerns for your mental welfare, all things considered.

I don't see how anyone could emerge as a well-adjusted individual after such a Walter Mitty existence. Then again, maybe you've no intention of "emerging".

I had to fade when I learned TTATT - I just couldn't continue in such a cesspool!

Read "The Road Less Travelled", by M. Scott Peck. He nails it!

    Exactly.

You have no idea if someone at your table is bluffing or not - you only know that you're bluffing.

Sixteen years is a long time to sit at the table and not realize that you hold the losing hand.

By the way - you were the one who threw the gambling metaphor on the table.

Or if they're an addict... ehm
