Does This Looks like James Woods' Magnificent Ferrari? What Do You Think?

This may sound like a dumb or invasive question, but (without going into details) does it cost you a fortune to keep your car well maintained? I bet parts are expensive.

I have owned it for about 6 years now and have spent a total of about $24,000 on maintenance. So, maybe $4,000 a year.

The Testarossa is just about the most expensive Ferrari there is to maintain because you have to do an engine-out service every 5 years to replace the timing belts which are not accessible unless you remove the engine and transmission. This service alone runs about $10,000. It is really a very well-engineered car and things do not just unexpectedly break, but it is 26 years old (26,000 miles on mine) and stuff does eventually wear out.

Most other Ferraris (including the modern ones) do not require the engine-out and cost roughly half as much to maintain. This cost is making the Testarossa (especially early ones like mine) fairly rare as many have been scrapped for parts when they need so much back maintenance that it was not worth the cost.

The FCA did an owners summary of the '85/'86 single mirror cars like mine three years back and we found a total of a little over 100 still on the road in the U.S. There are quite a few more of the later models - variations of it were made up until '95.

Wow, that is pricey. Mind you, I suppose you can consider it an investment in a way. If your car is rare BECAUSE it is so pricey to service, then it is increasingly becoming "one of a kind", and it may appreciate in value considerably for if you finally choose to sell it.

I seem to be quite fortunate with cars. I buy second-hand, usually at way below their true value, so that when I come to sell them I always either break even or make a small profit. I have had no major repair jobs needed on any of my cars. My current car is quite sporty, but nowhere near as prestigious as yours.

    Cedars,

Would you mind switching to Ferrari some day? If yes, I suggest the following

Well I wouldn't say no, put it that way! I think I'd prefer a Lambo though - or something altogether different that is a bit more practical. Supercars intrigue me, but I like cars that are low maintenance but still enjoyable.

    Lambo

Lambo's are just awesome though aren't they? They're how I expect ordinary cars to look in the future.

They would be OK if they could put the steering wheel on the proper side!

Awesome car, but it needs the right accessory, imho. (see foreground)

I prefer American cars. A friend of mine had one of these, but recently sold it:

It was like an Indy car on the street. Insane!

Scott77: the best guess I have for the Ferrari is the screenshot on p.1 (Vice City takes place in 1986). The video is for cedar's preference for a Lambo (the GTA Infernus).
