I am still wondering if it is th same thing... I mean, has anyone been able to electrically stimulate the brain in a person to make them love something that they never knew before ?
In effect that is what Derren did!

There will always be external stimuli. You are unconscious of most of the external stimuli that affect so many nervous reactions. You can get emotional response by hearing a feww note of music that you haven't been aware of. Changes in lighting can affect your move, subconsciously. An odour can make you hungry or nausious!
Yes but none of that equals direct electrical stimulation of the brain, right?
I added the 'need' because those case we are talking about need the external stumli, yes?
No. I just said it was possible. I am still not sure why you are adding in the "need" part or what role it plays.
So, why would some people need an external infulence to create a "religious revelation" or "religious feeling" and other it occurs naturally?
Not "need". It's possible to do it. Even in already religious people, it's possible to induce a religious experience on the spot.

I was just watching a discussion on that last night. There are ethical and moral concerns with that.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.
Let me get back to you.
Crap, service is not available in my area...
I cannot watch the episode, cantleave, can you link to another one perhaps?
I have not had this 'religious experience' that some people talk about. That overwhelming religious experience, that contagious "feeling" type thing that is often experienced in a religious fervor. Anyone can have that... you can go to a power point presentation and get that same feeling, depending upon how charismatic the speaker is. I do not know if that is what the video is describing or not, because again, i cannot watch it.
Peace,
tammy

Well if a person is not having a religious experience naturally ( occuring naturally without electrical stimuli) then they "need" to have it via an electrical stimulation. That is what I mean by need.

All a neuroscientist is doing, when directly stimulating the brain, is directly flicking the switches that the stimuli I described will flick.
This the one?

Well, without introducing the external stimulation, the feeling wouldn't be able to be reproduced on command.
