Any relationship takes communication - I communicated - god didn't - thus I terminated the relationship - I do not do unrequited love.
Why did you stop believing in God?

Rene Descartes, Blaise Pascal, Isaac newton, Michael Farady, Kelvin,
Max Planck ( Quantum Theory ) Albert Einstein - a few famous scientists
who all believed in God and a created universe. Jehovah's Witnesses
rarely have anything more than a high school diploma, and yet when they
discover the Watchtower doesn't have the answers, they become Atheists.
I have a university degree from the University of California. I am not an atheist and
my personal experience is that others with university degrees in all fields do believe
in God. Higher education does not automatically equal atheism.

You really should qualify your statements, because you have not presented Einsteins true beliefs. He didnt believe in Jehovah or any Christian God which is what you are implying. Read the remainder of his quote and its quite different the from the "mistruth" you are prsenting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein%27s_religious_views
Einstein was raised by secular Jewish parents. In his Autobiographical Notes, Einstein wrote that he had gradually lost his faith early in childhood:
. . . I came—though the child of entirely irreligious (Jewish) parents—to a deep religiousness, which, however, reached an abrupt end at the age of twelve. Through the reading of popular scientific books I soon reached the conviction that much in the stories of the Bible could not be true.

I don't think education has anything to do with it (just my opinion) I think it's life experience more than anything. The bible doesn't have all the answers, no one does. I think athiesm stems from a study and a desire to know.

How did Isaiah know "the earth is sphere and hangs upon nothing" ??
mP:
YOu might want to checkthe Greeks who actually measured the size of the earth at roughly the same time Isa was writing his book. The ancients knew the world was round. I would suggest that you do some basic research before repeating downright lies from Christians.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes
Eratosthenes of Cyrene (Ancient Greek: ?ρατοσθ?νης , IPA: [eratost?én??s] ; English / ?r ? ' t ? s θ ? n i? z / ; c. 276 BC [1] – c. 195 BC [2] ) was a Greek mathematician, geographer, poet, athlete [citation needed] , astronomer, and music theorist.
He was the first person to use the word "geography" in Greek and he invented the discipline of geography as we understand it. [3] He invented a system of latitude and longitude.
Too bad Jehovah didnt actually teach the jews anything worthwhile. Everything modern, they borrowed from their beightbours. Their writing system calendar, counting, astrology/astronomy, technology, science. There is no new science in the Bible, absolutely none. God didnt give the jews, machines, computers, medicine, or anything. Perhaps if he had helped them they might have become an empire instead of a slaves or vassals of bigger neighbours.

I am not sure that I or anyone else said that higher education automatically equals atheism.
When it comes to debating Gods existence on this forum, more often than not it is the atheists who use logical arguments and scientific facts. That's all I was saying.
Trying to equate studying WT articles with those who want scientifc evidence for God might be insulting to a few people here. Not me though, I don't care much for God or even science really. One thing about science though, it is true whether or not you choose to believe it. This is not so with the bible, it requires giant leaps of faith and logic.
The bible is full of errors and contradictions. The belief that the bible is Gods word, his method for communicating with mankind and his primary way of revealing himself to us (besides creation if your that way inclined) , is hard to defend in this age of information. If it is from God, it is a pretty clumsy effort.

villagegirl - You are spouting banal platitudes as if you were saying something profound.
Personally I know all about the many versions of theodicy, I have studied them intently and understand them fully. They are all vacuous.
Your comments suggest you haven't given the subject more than a moment's thought. Some of your comments on the subject are among the most foolish I have encountered - and that is quite an accolade.
Perhaps if you stopped preaching and trying to belittle those who disagree with you - "grow up people. Stop whining" and "You need to read some books people" - you might just learn something.

Heaven
Heaven - you want me to explain: HIV, Alzheimers, soft shelled Chinese turtles ??
Villagegirl, I want you to explain the intelligent design behind these. I do not want you to explain them. I already know them.
And you think an explanation; ( such as the detailed point by point"Watchtower style" explanations found in volumes of Watchtowers )is necessary to validate the existance of God ???
Incorrect. I would prefer a scientific explanation that can show the intelligent design you see in the items I listed. You are the one stating you see intelligent design in everything and that this is part of your validation that God exists.
There is, here on this forum a Watchtower style thinking, even for the atheists. You thought the Watchtower was doing complicated calculations that explained when God would destroy billions of people on earth in an event called Armageddon and when these calculations failed to be correct your conclusion is:
God does not exist because: ? No explanations can possibly be superior to the faithful and discreet slave's explanation.? Your reasoning is; Therefore: since there is no way to figure out all I see around me and my own consciousness; this means, there is no superior intelligence at all anywhere or other forms of life I cannot see. ?????
You want someone to wrap this up for you in a one hour watchtower study with numbered paragraphs and questions at the bottom of the page ??? And when no one can do that, you think this means there is no God ?? Are sure you aren't just mad that you can no longer go around feeling superior ??
I was never baptized as a JW. The only meetings at the local Kingdom Hall I attended were for a couple of Memorials, funerals, and weddings. In my day, our meetings were held in our home on Sundays, usually in the afternoon. I've never attended any Assemblies. I never underlined anything in any of their books or publications as I used to sit in a chair in the living room and had nothing solid to write on. I also did not believe in marking up a book like that. I have not yet on this thread explained why I stopped believing in God, but I did. My answer may come if I have time.
However, you have not answered my question. I am still waiting for you to explain the intelligent design you see in the items I listed. I am expecting this to be your personal opinion but if you have some scientific sources to point me to that would be nice as well. Thank you.

Villagegirl, do I understand correctly that you believe in god and the bible? I could understand wanting to believe in god. But not how you think the bible came from him. I get tired of the same old postings all the time, but I'll ask the questions anyways.
Why did he make viruses and diseases? Why ticks, fleas, Mosquitos, and flys like the Tse Tse fly? Why make skunks with a smell, snakes with venom, electric eels, turtles with a shell? Not for any reason the bible says. If you can't believe everything in the bible, then why do you feel qualified to decide what you CAN believe?
Why would he answer prayers of people like you and not hear them from poor kids being sexually abused as I type this?
Why did he not like vegetables when Cain offered them as a sacrifice? Why didn't he spend some time reasoning with Cain to help him not murder? I mean for gods sake he was talking to him! Say something to help Abel or help Cain or keep quiet! Why talk and not do something constructive? What a f'ing waste of time. God speaks to Cain and doesn't reason with him or help him see more clearly? He says something vague about sin and then does nothing as the first murder takes place? Then has pity for Cain and helps him!!! Gives him an incestuous marriage and a curse if anyone hurts HIM? No help for Abel but help for Cain?! That makes sense
God can't help or step in due to this vague universal sovereignty bullshit but he does step in to screw the chances people have of making it without him. He can't stop a tsunami due to universal sovereignty but he can cause a flood, confuse languages, send the Israelites into a land to commit genocide and the list goes on.
Belief in a god I can understand wanting. But clinging to the bibles version of god and the bibles inspiration is nutty.
