Animals occasionally get along with each other = they have souls. (video on p.4)

    I don't get it.

Why doesn't the opposite "logic" apply?

Animals kill each other = that proves they don't have souls.

It is probably a sloppy way to put it which you’re picking up on. I suggest that what it is trying to get at are degrees of self-referential consciousness, as opposed to mere instinctive consciousness which would not enable any kind of switching between behaviours.

Now you have completely changed the subject from soul to consciousness.

The title of the thread started by our Mormon crazy cult apologist is "Do Animals have SOULS?"

Nobody has yet defined soul and when you read through the thread you see lots of different people use the word to mean lots of different things. Sometimes the same poster uses it to mean more than one thing.

: Pretty pictures of cats do not substitute for a serious discussion. I no longer believe in what I was taught by a fraudulent faith from a mythical book and therefore I must also reject such fanciful notions as souls, spirits and ghosts.

COLD STEEL: You’re right. Photos mean nothing. Our discussions also ultimately mean nothing, as this is just a thread of personal opinions. Nothing in the Bible (“mythical book”) tells us one way or the other whether animals have spirits. And even if it did, many people (like you) who wouldn’t accept it.

LISAROSE: Cold Steel, those were not my words, but that of another poster that I was responding to. I am actually on the other side of this debate. I loved your cat pictures, and have already stated many times that IF people have souls then animals could also. But this was because I thought this was a light theological debate where anyone was welcome to comment, I didn't know that this was a SERIOUS, SCIENTIFIC debate, and I had no business posting my opinion, because I am stupid to believe in the possibility of the existence of God. But Cofty set me straight, this thread can only be posted on by atheists, who have vast scientific knowledge, and it is no place for anyone else to post their opinion, and and since it was started by a Mormon, it's a crude attempt to convert us to the Mormon belief belief anyway, so obviously even he should not be allowed to post, even though he started the thread. I will go back to read only, I only responded because I didn't want to think I was the one who posted those unkind comments. I have to go, I have this strange urge to visit a Mormon Temple, and read the book of Mormon, gosh, where did that come from?

Yep Cold, that was me Lisa was responding to. Personally , as a keen frequentor of Reddit, I get cat picture overload plus I can't stand the little furry bird killers . That's just me. This is my favourite cat clip. Obviously.

This cat has presumably just personally answered the soul question.

It is only human arrogance that allows us to entertain the belief that we are superior to animals.

No animal abuses its own kind with the efficiency and enthusiasm that humans do.

How about the sharks that eat all of their siblings while still in the womb?

Human have not even began to imitate the myriad ingenious ways the animal kingdom has invented to kill and torture its rivals and even its kith and kin.

The selfish gene reigns supreme in the natural world. Humans have the intelligence and foresight to overrule the tyranny of our genes and work for the greater good.

We are only partly and sporadically successful but as a species we are learning.

LisaRose - nice bit of passive aggressive sarcasm.

As a species at this stage in the game ..... we are not heading for a very pretty place.

Huh? (That's a really bad sentence.) and oh yeah, I heard about the kangaroos running concentration camps down under.

Humans have the intelligence and foresight to overrule the tyranny of our genes and work for the greater good.

Huh? "the tryanny of our genes" what does that even mean??
